According to the Stats, Our Offensive Line Sucks

After looking at some stats, it looks like the Carolina Panthers offensive line ranks 31st in the league in run blocking. 3.45 yd/carry. They get stuffed 24% of the time which is 30th in the league.

1.04 yd/carry getting to the 2nd level which is 23rd in the league, and .46 yd/carry in the open field which is 28th. This was before yesterdays game.

So the stats should spiral upward.

Jordan Gross side of the line is ranked 31st in the league and Byron Bells side is ranked 28th. However, Byron Bell himself is ranked 16th overall.

Over center position is ranked 28th overall.

These aren't good numbers and they should be corrected if the Panthers plan on making a playoff run next year.

I want to add that we are ranked bottom in the league in rushes at 244 and the leading team which is Houston has 415. If Deangelo needs carries to get going this isn't the way with the way this team is going.

Now is Chud a genius and is Rivera showing his knowledge with x's and o's?

Pass protection ranks 23rd!

------- 2011 ------

Last year the offensive line ranked 5th overall in run blocking and 21st in pass protection.

Every line has had problems this year but I will admit the line is starting to gel since they have been playing with each other for the past weeks longer than any line this year.

However, this problem needs to be worked out. I want a nt for the first pick if he is best available but now I am leaning more towards an olineman to keep Cam from getting injured.

Good to see our observations that Gross is straight garbage is not an overreaction or witch hunt of the highest paid OL. We need to upgrade LT and RG bad.

I'm going back and rewatching several games. I just got done with Chicago where Gross was pretty solid. Watching Dallas now.

I think Gross is overpaid, but not a liability.

RG has been an issue all year long.

    • Care to elaborate why you disagree? We kicked the ball off 3 times and we kept the Browns to starting field position of the 22, 27, and 10 (would have been 21 before a penalty). All 3 of those are successes with the modern kickoff rule.
    • Its August so obviously quality options are not there. The question is whether any improvement can be made to the bottom of the depth chart.
    • NFL has a huge amount of parity.  The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable.  2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.
