The GM Candidates

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I dont know why we wouldnt want Mike Ross more than Gettleman. He is director of college scouting and the draft. This teams philosophy is to build threw the draft and not go after free agents. Drafting is one thing we need to get better at if we are ever gonna compete consistently. Cant just keep hitting on only first and second rounders and i think we have one of the worst scouting departments in the league. I think Ross just fits us better.

Here's a name to think about.

Mike Tannenbaum.

Not as a GM, but as a salary cap specialist. Conventional wisdom is that he was good at that part of the job (aside from the Sanchez contract) but not so good as a personnel man .

hell, if he can fill his team with talent and manage the cap so well he has an extra 20 million guaranteed to waste on mark sanchez then I'm all for him coming here to work the contract numbers

Wouldn't the Mark Sanchez move be considered Hurney-ish though? I mean 20 million on Sanchez? 20 million on Delhomme? Deja vu, no?

Ah, but that's the difference. As a cap manager only, he'd haven power to make personnel decisions.

None of the people who have been talked up as candidates here have any history of cap management. They'll need to be paired with someone who does. Tannenbaum could be that guy.

Noteworthy: Granted we're only two days in, but to date the Panthers haven't been reported as asking permission to speak to anyone who doesn't work for the Giants.

Thanks Ernie

(no, I'm not complaining)

It just looks like the Panthers are locked in on Gettleman and Ross. This could be a good thing and it could also be a bad thing. The good thing is if everything goes right Ross or Gettleman could be our GM by the end of the week. If everything doesn't go right we could miss out on Gamble or Dave Caldwell who I hear he could be a good GM.

I don't know what it is but something tells me that David Gettleman is going to be our next GM, and I think he'll be a great fit for this team

I agree that things seem to be looking like gettleman although I like Ross more. Does anyone know if gettleman had been asked to be interviewed besides us?
