I was wrong but moving forward

i don't think that was the case until he gave fox the ultimatum of two winning seasons in a row or i tear it up and we start looking forward.

he should have let hurney go with fox and started with a truly clean slate. he didn't want to shake things up to bad, but he ended up making things out of balance.

i have a feeling that we'll be paying for that for a long time.

Yeah, I mean there is a history of him hiring guys prior to that who had almost full functioning autonomy in their positions (Polian, Seifert, Hurney initially)... But, I think it was a change of approach as you said.

And I think this is a fine example of how dysfunctional we are right now as an organization... As you suggested, the GM and coach generally should go hand in hand, When the only other team looking for a GM but retained their underperforming coach is the Jets with Rex Ryan, there is a problem.

There was no point in firing Hurney, especially midseason, when you are keeping his questionable hire of a coach in place regardless of who you hire as a GM.

I truly believe that in hindsight. JR would take that decision back. Which is why I truly believe he is going to make a better decision this time.

I am condident that JR will make sure the new GM will be on board with Rivera. Which, to me, sounds like success. Which only ups my giddy more than ever.

I see a bright future. Even if, Zod forbid, Beane gets the job. Well, maybe not that bright.

I've been very critical of Rivera at times, and he's gotten his fair share of the blame, but he'd have a winning record as a coach if not directly because of some player fugups. I'm not talking about aw man so and so fumbled in the 2nd quarter, I mean as a direct result of game ending plays late in the fourth. AZ last year, ATL this year, New Orleans last year, Seattle this year, Tampa Bay this year, Chicago this year, etc.

So again, yes Rivera has fuged up, but if players do their jobs none of this is being talked about. Instead we are talking about how to shut down Aaron Rodgers in our game against GB in an hour and a half or so.

I was among those who said that Rivera should not and would not be retained, I was wrong on 1 and perhaps both points. He now has my support.

I thought it was interesting that Rivera said he and Mr Richardson have met every week (since Hurney was fired) and JR tells him what he likes and doesn't like. JR must have seen some evidence that RR listened and made some changes.

I am moving forward believing.

This is why I am excited. I truly believe JR trusts Rivera to get us where we want to go. Rivera would be gone otherwise.

I trust JR. I think he is trying to right the ship. I will support this change, as I see it as a step forward. I am not in fear of another mistake hire ike some folks seem to be.

I been on the fire the Rivera bandwagon for quiet some time. I wasn't mad or anything when I found out he would be retained. I expected the inevitable to happen in that situation anyway, I'm ok that JR brought Rivera back. I 100% support the Panthers and Ron Rivera now. I'm a Panthers fan at heart and I will continue to be a Panthers fan for as long as I live. Hopefully next year we can get our team on the right track and make the playoffs. I'm not accepting anything less then the playoffs next year and everyone else should feel the same.

If we don't have a winning record in the first half of the season, he'll never have my support.

This may just be the truth. Rivera pretty much must make the playoffs. If it looks like we fall short again, he better have one hell of a reason. Start 2- 4 and the rumblings will start. Start 4-2 and it will be but pitiful mummerings.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
