Rumor: Ross met with panthers twice

Hey everyone. Thought I'd clarify a few misconceptions in this thread, and explain the situation leading to the 'rumor' talking about Ross's alleged first interview on Saturday.

Starting with Marc Ross's interview(s). I was told by someone who had knowledge that Ross was in town on Saturday and meeting with Richardson, but this wasn't enough to run with -- also the timing seemed odd. Conducting Ron Rivera's exit interview, deciding to retain him, and interview a potential GM is a lot of daily activity, let alone on a weekend... which is normally unheard of in the Panthers.

It seemed significant enough to mention, but I wanted to make it clear that it was a rumor -- and not confirmed. Truthfully I have no clue who the front runner is. My guess is Gettleman solely because every potential candidate other than Ross come from a pro-personnel background, not college scouting -- but what do I know?

I'm from Australia, moved here 11 years ago. I've been following the team since 1995 because I have family in the area.

If there was any original content lifted from here and pasted on an inferior site then I apologize, but unfortunately the JPEG's our users post in comment threads isn't something I have control over. If one of our editors or authors took material and used it in a post, I'd like to know ASAP because it's in violation of our posting procedures. We only use photos licensed from Getty Images, USA today, or original content created by our authors. If something was incorrectly used I would like to remove it ASAP.

Overall I sense some hostility towards our site, and on one level I understand. Everyone likes to pull for 'their team', in this case their community. Ultimately, however, I think it's best to be cordial. I respect the community over here, and you guys are definitely hardcore fans. In fact, some of our users have tail-gated pre-game with people from here. While I haven't had the pleasure to interact with many here directly, I talk with some of you on Twitter -- almost always with good results.

In any event, best wishes to everyone here. Go Panthers, and all that jazz.

I thought half the country was busy helping film "The Hobbit"

James, remember that time you said Blaine Gabbert was better than Cam? That's why no one takes you seriously.

Not sure I'll ever live that one down. Though it is one of those things that has kind of spun out and away from the truth by several degrees.

If you actually look at what I wrote pre-draft, I said that Newton had far and away the higher ceiling, and the far greater chance to be 'great', but I was very unsure about whether he could correct his mechanics at the next level, and become a true pocket passer.

Thankfully for all of us the organization took a risk that I wouldn't have -- at least playing armchair GM.

FWIW, I still think Gabbert has a future -- just needs to get away from that dumpster fire in Jacksonville. He always needed 1-2 years to sit before starting, and never should have been put in year-one. At least that's the way I see it.

The best thing to know before you join here:

There's some people who just won't compromise... as with anywhere, but you'll see it's especially prevalent here lmao (not a shot at you either JT)

Guest Tom Cat

I doubt we hear anything of substance prior to everyone being interviewed and most likely sometime next week at the earliest that a deal is struck and announced.

It's def going to be Ross, I can feel it in my loins.

Apologies JOAT. Your loins are a little off

Great moments in bad timing

Has there been any news on Gettleman? I still say he ends up being our guy.

There's news now.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
