Call It - Season Opener 2013

As a change of pace, let's try to predict the Panthers 2013 season opener. First, the slate:

Home: Falcons, Saints, Buccaneers, Rams, Seahawks, Giants, Patriots and Jets

Away: Falcons, Saints, Buccaneers, Cardinals, 49ers, Vikings, Bills and Dolphins

Here are some stats regarding our openers in the recent past:

  • 4 of last 5, and last 3, have been road openers
  • 4 of last 5, and last 3, have been NFC opponents
  • Last year's opener being a divisional game was the first since 2006 (vs Falcons, incidentally 2005 was also a divisional opener, vs Saints)

Given the stats above, I'm going to say we get at the least, a home opener this season. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it'll be an AFC opponent. I also think the more high-profile opponents we face next year (SF, NE, NYG, ATL, NO) will either be scheduled to take on more "glamours" opponents Week 1 or are potential primetime opponents, and I believe Week 1 we will be opening at our usual slot, Sunday at 1PM. Therefore, my guess is Panthers vs Jets.

    • Lions were never going Freeling over Miller for the same reason we wouldn't have taken Miller had Freeling not been on the board. Miller is a career RT Lions have a hole at RT, we have a hole at LT. If we took Miller, it would have been for him to backup Moton until he retires and/or we release him, so the best case scenario is it would have been a wasted 1st round pick for at least 1, if not 2 years.  At least Freeling has a shot at playing this year without injury ahead of him, he absolutely can win the LT job if he earns it, but Miller would have never supplanted Moton this year unless he got hurt.
    • What up y’all. I like threads like this where we can stroll down memory lane. I remember the insane amount of site traffic pre-crash when we signed Keyshawn Johnson, 06 I believe. Raging about the Cowboys Christmas Eve loss in 05 (Peppers touched that FG attempt as sure as Cotchery caught it). When I found the huddle I basically had a first born baby, now I’ve got one in college and one in high school. Life comes at you fast, but the Panthers and the Huddle has been a steady constant in my life for many years.  Those who have been here, y’all are cool with me any time any where.    Cheers, genitals!
    • This is a weird post since it wasn’t like we got A’s across the board. We needed a QB and got a consensus top 2 player at that position. (I was pretty vocal that Stroud should’ve been the guy but…)  I think this draft we generally got better value. I’m not particularly optimistic on BY but another year in this offense playing with TMac he really needs to be a consistently average QB at a minimum
