How much is a guard worth?

Do you think guards are worth more in today's NFL? Is 14 too high for drafting one? Keep in mind that VERY few guards have been drafted high, even the very best. At this point though, I'm running out of reasons not to draft Warmack at 14. I just think he'll be the guy who could help this franchise the most, social norms be damned.

If Warmack is available he will be very seriously considered by our front office and coaching staff and would be a long term solution at the position. The interior of our line would hopefully be dominant for years with Silatolu, Kalil, and Warmack. I'd be on board with the pick.

It's crazy though because I've seen him mocked in the top 10 and even top 5 on some sites.

Guard play is very important in running the ball. It's because the RB position has been devalued over the years, so have everything associated with great RB play. Many are saying Warmack is a top ten pick. Warmack may be the best player in the draft, but he won't be touched until at least the 17th pick. Look at DeCastro last year. I would consider DeCastro a better G than Warmack coming out, and he was drafted at 24. So that tells you the value of G has diminished.

Yeah I know what you guys are saying, it just makes so much sense though. The panthers have spent more money on their backs than just about anyone in history, yet they can't even hit 4 yards a carry. I also remember the first tampa game, when imo the battle was lost because they couldn't contain the inside pass rush. Argh, I'm mindfuged.

Simple solution. Get rid of all the ridiculous money being paid to backs and start giving them to positions with value.

That's a ludicrously expensive interior group. Two first round picks, a second round pick, and at least two big contracts?

    • I am really sorry  that  happened to you they say to never meet your sports heroes i have friends who met  mickey mantle when they were young and he was a belligerent alcoholic at the time  ut broke their hearts  I had the opportunity to meet and spend  time with Cam Newton.     He was the polar opposite of Steve Smith and his public image.   Polite.  Honest when asked question.  You could tell the things that mattered to him and the things that  didnt. The disappointments in himself and the things that hurt him  those qualities make him quite a good interviewer too  i genuinely liked him   Im sure as young, rich, sports hero, he has not been a choir boy but there is goodness in him  the time i met him i took one of my friends with me from the west coast. She said she didn't like him and wasn’t enthusiastic about meeting him.  She left loving him   No one can say anything bad about ‘her Cam’ anymore
    • Agree about oline. They've tried their best to improve that area. But honestly, has it looked like the most expensive oline in the NFL to you? Not just with Bryce. With Dalton's one game where they almost got the old man killed.  Also YAC shouldn't always be hitting a guy in stride while he's running full speed. Pickens killed us after the catch and those weren't all hit-in-stride plays. I remember a play in Miami when a guy caught a 5 yards curl and took it like 30-40 yards to the house. We don't have that in Carolina. Horn might be the closest thing to that but he can't get significant PT for whatever reason. If Bryce keeps trusting his receivers to make plays, I think he'll become more consistent. Seemed like he only trusted TMac. And force feeding one receiver isn't sustainable. Defenses will start to blanket him and take him out of the game. And yeah, keep taking deep shots. I hate all that dink and dunk football. Hate it.
    • Dan Marino sucked too I guess. Washed up Elway carried by Terrell Davis was actually better than prine Elway. Lol
