An example of Bill Polian's "genius"

Colts owner Jim Irsay says Polian wanted to trade away Peyton Manning in 2004 (link)

Bill Polian is also the guy who was once known for throwing a chair at an agent during contentious negotiation and who, when asked whether he had any concerns about the durability of first round draft pick Tshimanga Biakabutuka, said flatly "None"

He took Kerry Collins and Tshimanga Biakabutuka over Steve McNair and Eddie George with two of the most important picks in franchise history. I've not been a huge fan of the guy.

I do want some more info as to why he wanted to trade Manning though. He had just come off that co-mvp year I believe. Even though it was a contract year, he's clearly one of the best in the sport. Also, who wanted him?

He never missed a game at Michigan, why would he have any concerns about his durability?

So did George Seifert. Both kind of sucked here, so I assume they are clownfrauds.

Took over a Bills team that had averaged 4 wins a season for the four years prior to his arrival, averaged over 10 wins for next four years, made playoffs after two years.

Took over an expansion Panthers team, broke record for wins in first season, made it to Division Champs second year, averaged almost 9 wins a year for three years.

Took over a 3-13 Indianapolis team, proceeded to draft Manning and win a ton.

Seiffert took over a dominant team in San Francisco with two franchise quarterbacks on the roster and maintained it. Then he took over a mediocre team in Carolina and maintained that as well...

Irsay is an idiot.

He sure had a lot of success for being such an awful GM...

drafted peyton manning. that's about the extent of it. nothing else special about what he did.

btw, he's the guy that hired jim mora, sr. he wasn't allowed to hire any coaches after that and he was against hiring dungy.

polian isn't liked around the league. he and his son are considered toxic, meddlers, and pricks.

their success had everything to do with peyton and little to do with building a team. they had a lot of success drafting from '98-'06, but after that was considered pretty bad...and a lot of that had to do with their personnel guru and top talent evaluator, dom anile, getting pushed out of the job by polian's son.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
