Bucky Brooks' latest mock (has us passing on Patterson). Hmmph.

He still has us taking Sheldon Richardson, but does anyone here really think that we are going to pass up on Cordarelle Patterson if he is still on the board? I just don't see it. Some of these top players are going to really have to have some outstanding workouts/pro days to knock Patterson out of the top 14. Doesn't Patterson have the potential to be in the same league as Julio Jones and Dez Bryant? Is anyone very familiar with this kid? Any Volunteers on the Huddle that can answer that question objectively? I understand that Patterson is still raw, but he appears to be a versatile, impact player. Perhaps I'm fooling myself with this kid. I don't see him lasting until our 2nd pick though.

Hater ^

Just stating to the truth.

What part of this screams great WR?

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/532092/cordarrelle-patterson

He averaged 3.3 catches per game for 46 yards in SEC play. A total of 3 TDs in SEC play.

I'm not saying the guy doesn't have potential, I just think he's way too boom or bust to take at #14 overall when we have so many other needs.

These are but some of the thoughts on Patterson, and why he is getting the time of day. He's been compared to a bigger version of Percy Harvin on another site. I also read one site that said he makes the first guy miss. Like I said, he's raw and unpolished, but poised to make an impact given the right situation.

scout.com:

A big, strong target who is a mismatch waiting to happen on the outside because of his ability to go over smaller receivers, Patterson has prototype size and leaping ability. He's a bully on the outside, and that's meant in a good way. He attacks defensive backs with the ball in his hands, and with his long strides, he's deceptively fast. His size and skill make him a difficult cover - Scott Kennedy

rotoworld:

One scout questioned Tennessee WR Cordarrelle Patterson's intelligence and believes his NFL team will have to simplify things for Patterson to have success.

It's Lying Season in the NFL, but this isn't the first time we've heard this worry about Patterson. "He’s explosive. He’s dynamic. He runs consistent 4.4s," the scout conceded. "I’m just not sure how smart he is. You’re going to have to keep it simple for him. But the kid is really dynamic." There were similar concerns about Dez Bryant and even A.J. Green coming out of college. Green scored a 10 on the Wonderlic and was drafted fourth overall.

examiner.com:

Patterson transferred to Tennessee in 2012 after playing at the JUCO level. Patterson can raise his stock perhaps into 1st round consideration by performing well in pre-draft workouts such as the NFL Combine and his schools pro day. He has the enormous ability to be a big time playmaker wherever he lines up. In just one year at Tennessee he set a school record for all-purpose yardage with 1,858 yards. He scored 10 total touchdowns in a variety of ways (5 receiving, 3 rushing, 1 kickoff return, and 1 punt return). Overall, Patterson like most of the wide receiver prospects in the 2013 class probably carries a 2nd round grade, but will get several opportunities between now and the 2013 NFL Draft in April to move up draft boards. He can make an immediate impact for a team with his size, speed and elusiveness in the open field. He can become a number one receiver in time if he can get the proper coaching along with playing with a veteran mentor.

I don't understand the obsession with Patterson. He didn't do poo against good competition. Just go look at his stats. Only 750 receiving yards and over 200 of that was against fuging Troy. He didn't do poo in SEC play.

Despite this he is still a better option than any DT not named Star

Sheldon Richardson and Floyd at DT are going high in mocks for a reason..they have the tools to actually be dominant in the NFL...not so fast:Fletcher Cox,Donatari Poe and Michael Brockers..

This class has legit DT talent outside of Star. Patterson is good too so I would not hate the pick.

    • The Sanders thing is fake. We could use some safety help no doubt but the FB thing about him asking us to sign him is fake.
    • GREAT LIST!!!!! I'd look to add both Davis and Muma at ILB.  One is a WILL ILB and the other is a SAM ILB. Clear upgrades over Bam and Cherelus Mukuamu would be a great addition at safety.  I'd drop Scott for him and start one of Richardson or Ransom I'd give Fadil Diggs a look over DJJ any day of the week.  DJJ is not long for the roster once Nic is 100% Outside of the guys I mentioned and a CB to be named later I really don't see too much shuffling from what we have on our 53.  I think we need to get creative with our PS.  Luckily we are healthy and can take some time to develop players if we retain a few of our own.  I think Kingston and Tarquin will be back at OL for us.  Sam Roberts, Mike Reid, and Bartholomew for sure on defense.  I'd assume Wright will stick on the PS until our rookie kicker proves himself.  Sam Franklin would be a perfect PS signing.  I'd love to pick up Kyle McCord or Trask as a PS QB.  One player to keep an eye on is Jalen Brooks from the Cowboys.  He's from the area and is talented.  Lots of options.  PS players can play 4 games before having to sign on for the rest of the year!!!
    • Agreed. In a similar way to Aaron Donald being considered too small for IDL when he was drafted, Lampkin is always viewed as too small but just dominates anyway.
