Bucky Brooks' latest mock (has us passing on Patterson). Hmmph.

top dawg

He's a playmaker, plain and simple. If he's there when we pick, he's going to be taken by us. How many games has Devin Hester or Percy Harvin won based on returns and "gimmick" plays - a lot.

First priority should be protecting Cam, unless y'all want to see the return of pickles. I think when Getts was saying "Sometimes the answer is already on your roster." he was referring to the WR position. We've got a lot of picks invested at that position, and this is the make or break year for those guys. At 14 it's going to be a line man, whichever side has the BPA. If any other position than line is taken then, it will be Vacarro or Trufant. Don't think Patterson, or Allen is even in the conversation when there will be guys there in the second that are almost as good.

He was a top 5 pick before the trade. Is Patterson? No. And the fact that even in your WR loving heart you would lose your poo if the Panthers traded 5 picks to get Patterson. So no Patterson is not a Julio type.

a top 10 pick you mean, like where most have Patterson going.Julio was never considered a top 5, with AJ there. i would hate for the panthers to trade up for anybody considering how many holes this roster has. again we all thought the falcons gave up the farm for Julio.

How many times has Bears drafted or signed a WR because Hester isn't a WR?

The more we go thru this process Top 10 for Patterson isn't looking to good.

How many of those games ended with them raising the Lombardi Trophy?

At WR we've got Steve Smith who is only a couple of years away from retiring and loses another step every season.. then Brandon LaFell who has the raw, blistering speed of a double amputee. Dude can catch but is still finishing his route from the last game. After those two, it's just a big bag of lol and meh.

I think I'd prefer to upgrade at DT or CB in the first, but WR should definitely be a consideration if the team thinks there's a future #1 there..

The more things change the more they stay the same. Especially around this place.

The optimistic among us see a talented kid with the ability to do multiple things. Big, strong, fast, and exciting. Something we need. They like the thought of an actual playmaker coming to Cam's rescue. They see a team that is only a few playmakers from being really good, and this kid can be that player.

Then you have the we are way to talent scrapped to waste a first round pick on an undeveloped WR. We need too many other positions to waste our first pick on a raw WR. We sucked last year, and if we don't pick BPA this year, we will suck again. We need to draft OT or DT to even get up to mediorce.

And then there are the folks who only debunk others ideas without adding any of their own. These are the folks who live the motto, "A complaint without a solution, is just a bitch." These folks are the comic relief all conversations need.

We have no idea what our team will look like come draft day. The speculation is all good and fun, but that is all it is. Speculation. Let people have their fun. Aw, who am I kidding. Too many folks live to nitpick others ideas to allow for speculation to be what it is. Fun.

Patterson is not going to make us worse. That in itself should count for somethiing.

You could say the same thing about Cox last year but I still fought against drafting him and now look at the defense. It is leaps and bounds ahead of where we would be with Cox on the line.

That's what makes this time of year so enjoyable. The speculation.

It all comes down to perception. Some folks precieve us to be a talent scrapped team that can't possibly fill all those needs in one year. While others see us as a team that can make a splash with just a few right moves.

We have holes, there is no arguing that point. The point being, how many holes do you precieve. Me, I see a DT to pair with Dwan and a RG as priorities. Help in the secondary would be next. The first two we can fill with solid FAs. The secondary is a different animal.

Can we get value with a DB pick at 14? I say yes. Many say no. Some think vet DBs are either too expensive or not worth the time and effort. I say with the way this year is shaping up, who knows? Good quality vet DB help just may be in the cards.

That is some of the many predraft scenarios that make this time of year so much fun.
