Tavon Austin projected to be top 15 pick.

Jaworski thinks Carolina should get him. He's the same size as DeSean Jackson but quicker.

After attending West Virginia's Pro Day on Thursday, ESPN's Ron Jaworski predicted WR Tavon Austin will be a top-15 pick.

"This guy is absolutely lightning quick," said Jaws. "He's one of the quickest guys I've ever seen and I've been around the game since 1973. This guy just accelerates when he gets the football and, although he's a little bit diminutive, I think this guy's gonna go in the top 15." Carolina would be an intriguing landing spot at No. 14. New Panthers GM Dave Gettleman -- a former Giants exec -- could see some Victor Cruz in the versatile Austin

Absolutely not. I think Austin could very well be a good player, especially in the right environment, but he doesn't fit what we need. If we go WR early (and I think we should, but in the 2nd), it shouldn't be ANOTHER undersized speedy guy. Most teams have 1 or 2 undersized speedy guys at most to add some variety to their passing game. Our WR corps is dominated by undersized speedy guys.

Adams ran a 4.59 and plays like it. Austin is a 4.3 guy and plays like a 4.0 guy.

Adams' "play" or lackthereof had nothing to do with his speed. When he got on the field he was plenty speedy enough. He just isn't polished enough as a receiver and still gets the nerves when PRing.

I thnk he fit exactly to what we need in this offense. We don't have that slot receiver who can keep the chain moving on 3rd down, or that target that Cam can go to when he's in trouble. 89 will always be on the outside. LaFail will be the no.2, so Austin can come right in and fill the slot position. He can help do a lot of the dirty work running the short routes.

When you look at all the better offenses in the league, most of them has that slot receiver (NE Welker, Den Stokley, GB Cobb). We're missing that right now. We're a pass first offense and we lined of with 3 receiver sets a lot. The thing is we have no true slot that is able to create mismatch underneath. LaFail have been working that position the last couple years but he's too big and not mobile/agile to work that position.

I don't understand how anyone can say that our offence doesn't need a small, speedy WR. The speedy guys in question like Murphy, Pilares and Armanti haven't exactly amounted to much. You can't exactly point to them and go 'but wait! We already have THAT guy!'. The only legitimate 'small, speedy guy' worth a damn is Smitty. He's getting up there in age.

    • You're assuming just as well.   Morgan and Canales were hired 3 days apart.  I believe it was partially due to their connections in Seattle.  i believe Tepper wanted some familiarity with his GM and HC.  It is so easy to sit back and arm-chair QB over draft picks.  You don't know what the philosophy was going into the 2024 draft.  I believe Canales and Morgan were drafting for the future.  XL and Brooks point to that philosophy. Name me one GM that is 100% on draft picks.  Just one.  You're not going to find one.    I think year one picks weren't for what can you do for me now but Potential.   XL hasn't lived up to the hype of a 1st rounder.  I think we all can agree on that. However, there still is hope he comes around.  What I believe they saw in him was his speed after the catch.  He needs to get more consistent but when he gets the ball you kind of hold your breath just a second because if he gets free, he's gone.  The Brooks pick was a signing for the future, and no one could have guessed he would re-injure the same ACL.  This makes the pick look bad but Dallas was ready to draft him later that same round.  IMO we'll have to see what happens next season before we can call this a bust. Wallace has improved each season and for a third rounder has done well.  Sanders has shown flashes and considering the pick in the 4th round it wasn't a bad pick.  His sophomore season IMO was a little bit more productive.  Smith-Wade has been a good addition and has played well.  For a 5th round pick to get as much playing time as he has.  Most picks below round 3 should take a couple of years to get up to speed.  He's been a decent player.  Crumedy, no comment We turned Barrett into Jackson.  This was an amazing move and basically got a starting CB for a 7th round pick.  Pretty shrewd if you ask me. Coker, maybe the best Free Agent signing of the 2024 draft class. So, in short, you can't say that the draft was a bust.  It isn't a home run but all but one are still on the team and outside of Brooks have made contributions to wins.  2025 draft class has been much better with almost every pick making contributions this season.  Now take Fitterer's two years and compare them to Morgan and tell me that they have the same philosophy.
    • He hasn’t led crap, he’s on loaded teams and a piece of the puzzle. And he’s he has improved drastically but it took the ultimate QB whispers in Shanahan and KOC. You put him on this Panther team and he’s back to normal Darnold
    • Slavin and Jarvis week to week. Florida cheap shots took out our two best players.  I’d start KK so he can beat the brakes off someone.
