We have signed signed two WRs in FA. I don't see us drafting another.

We signed a return man...who occassionally plays WR as a one trick pony. We also signed an injury prone guy who has never done much. We added this two "studs" to a weak overall WR core.

How exactly are we set at WR? We have an aging star at Smith. After that we have Brandon LaFell.....after that? We got a bunch of dudes.

Hixon can compete for the second spot and Ginn for the third (since Edwards and Gettis are the other options). Although I am high on LaFell and think he is locked up for #2 and could be a #1 (nobody agrees with me on this but that's not material).

I would just question Gettleman signing two middle of the road WRs if we are also going to draft a WR in the first when there is no obvious standout in the draft this year. That would be a lot of our spots dedicated to WR when we are paupers this year.

I think given our cap woes we are patching up WR spot as best we can and drafting something else at #1.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward

1. Hopkins

2. Hopkins

3. Hopkins

4. Hopkins

5. Hopkins

I don't think Star with be there and I'm not in love with any of the other DTs. I'd rather wait until the 2cd and grab one there. I don't think any of the top 3 OTs will be there either and I don't want an OG in the 1st. I'm also not in love with any of the safeties. I like Cyprien, but small school guys scare me taking them that high.

I think Hopkins is the best WR in the draft. Just take him.

i wouldnt mind it. he has increase his production every year and started over 30 games i believe. great hands, high points the ball well, and runs good routes.

Smith, Hixon and Ginn isn't any better than what we had last year...with Smith, LaFell, Murphy. With Smith year older it definitely isn't a stronger cast around Cam.

Look at the NYG model and tell me they don't believe in drafting WRs high....it isn't like NY only drafts a Megatron in the top rounds. We need to be building Cam an offense....the whole "TD scorer" thing G talks about....

Hopkins' stats:

2010

51 catches, 626 yards, 12.3 average, 4 TDs

2011

72 catches 978 yards, 13.6 average, 5 TDs

2012

82 catches, 1405 yards, 17.1 average, 18 TDs

That included a 13 catch, 191 yards with 2 TDs performance against one of the best defenses in the country against LSU in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

He's gotten better every year and simply exploded this season.

Combine results:

http://www.nfl.com/d...kins?id=2540165

6'1" 214#

10" hands (that is HUGE)

4.57 40

15 reps

36" vertical

4.50 second 20 yard shuttle

Now, let's compare that to Hakeem Nicks - the guy who I compare Hopkins to:

2006

39 catches, 660 yards, 16.9 average, 4 TDs

2007

74 catches, 948 yards, 12.9 average, 5 TDs

2008

68 catches, 1222 yards, 18.0 average, 12 TDs

Combine performance:

http://www.nfl.com/c...-nicks?id=80672

6'1" 212#

4.63 40

36" vertical

Like Nicks, Hopkins doesn't have elite size or speed. But, like Nicks, he had good production over his college career showing improvement each year before finally figuring it all out and exploding in his final college season showing a knack for getting more yardage out of his catches and finding the endzone. You just can't measure the ability to consistently make tough catches, get open, and simply make plays on the field.

Knowing what you know right now about him as an NFL player, if Hakeem Nicks was coming out of college and was in this draft, would you take him at #14? Then take DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins is legit....easily can debate he was better than anyone else in the draft last year

I think he's a great receiver but he seems to lack elite speed and from the games I've watched drops quite a few balls over the middle. I'd love him with our 2nd if he's there though! But I'd be upset if we got him in the first to be honest. Anyway what do I know? I could sound like an idiot a year from now.

Hell, we all could. That's what makes it fun!

Every single draft there are teams that look stupid. Hell, EVERY single team ends up looking stupid. There are always high picks busts and there are always late round steals. The teams that take the high pick busts are obviously stupid, but when you think about it, every team is stupid for allowing the late round steals to fall as far as they did. Was NE that smart for drafting Brady in the 6th? No, they and every other team were stupid for allowing him to fall to the 6th. If you re-do that draft, he goes #1 overall. And these are the actual picks made by people who are well paid to make these decisions, so don't feel bad when that guy you really wanted ends up to be a bust or that guy you didn't want ends up being great. It happens.

I never said he would be a bust. All I'm saying is with all of our holes is he really worth our first round pick?

I didn't mean to imply you said he would be a bust. I was just speaking in general.

Yes, he's worth our 1st round pick. I view WR as one of our biggest needs and I think Hopkins is the best WR in this class. He's not the biggest or the fastest, but I think he's the best overall WR. I'd prefer to trade back a few picks and take him, but I just don't know if that will be an option. Based on who I think is likely to be on the board, I'd sit there and take him at #14 if a trade back option wasn't there.

A lot of the DTs that are getting a lot of hype scare me. They're those athletic DTs who don't hold up well against the run and those are the types of DTs that often end up busting.

    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
    • Maybe faked was too strong of a word.  "Milked" may be the better way to call it.
