Panthers were targetting Russell Wilson last year

this is according to Joe Person, so I'd probably take it with a grain of salt.

According to Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, Panthers coach Ron Rivera and his offensive coaching staff were interested in drafting Wilson, as a backup to Cam Newton.

The thinking was that, if Newton were injured, the same offense could be run by Wilson.

But the Panthers viewed Wilson as a late-round pick, underscoring the extent to which most teams failed to accurately evaluate Wilson’s potential at the next level.

If we had Wison and Cam on the team, which one would win the starting job?

there wouldn't have been a competition in training camp or preseason at all.

even if wilson blew cam away there's zero chance the reigning rookie of the year would have been benched going in to year 2 unless he started shitting the bed in real games.

Homerism or Camerism if blatant.

No brainer that we would sit a playoff QB on the bench with NO chance to get on the field. Says a lot about us, huh.

you've watched football before right.

just checking because i can't tell.

really i want you to say, point blank, that if seattle had a quarterback who was the rookie of the year and had broken a laundry list of records going into season 2, that they'd bench him in camp for a mid round rookie.

    • Even if you concede that Bryce gets better as the season goes on you cant have a QB that just surrenders the first 2 games and the next 4 or 5 are iffy
    • I understand very clearly that Wilks’ approach in ‘22 wasn’t going to make us able to beat the better teams, but he got us competing and succeeding against the teams we should beat, similar teams to us. And it felt the best any stretch has felt, under Tepper.  But Tepper and the mob here had to have themselves the Offensive Minded HC, play caller guru. How’s that working out?    I know this: guys in the locker room were all about Wilks. He equaled or bested the win total of every other coach under Tepper before or since. It is a fact, and not for nothin.    FWIW I didn’t think he was gifted as a DC, when he was here as the DC. But he was excellent coaching DBs. All those jobs are different I guess, take different skill sets. I think his strength as a HC was getting people to follow him. That goes a long way.  After what has befallen this team since rejecting him, I don’t feel like a lesser fan for supporting him, I promise you that.
    • Since you also posted the Denver game, worth pointing out thumbing do anything for three quarters after the first drive until Denver went into garbage (Bryce) time.  They got a meaningless late touchdown to make it a 14 point and give Bryce some yards.  Since we’re moving into superlatives, they weren’t competitive at all in that game.  and Bryce also got complete outshone by Bo Nix and anyone with pride would retire after that.
