I Feel Sorry for Mike Shula

really wish we ecould've gone OT in the 5th instead of Klein, if you want to get back to the "roots" of our smash mouth run game, fix the fuging line. The right side was an absolute abortion, so we add Kugbila (not sure about him, guess I'll have to read up on him), then you have a chance to replace Bell with a guy like Jordan Mills or Reid Fragel and its a no go. Eh whatever.

Cam a game manager?

WTF would we want a dynamic player like Cam to be a mere game manager? I'm starting to see what CRA is saying. It's looking like Gettleman is fazing Cam out, and taking us back to an old smash mouth, defensive minded team. That would've been cool years ago, but in a passing league, it's not going to work. Looking more and more like Cam's best offensive unit will be that unit he had his first year. We needed offensive weapons this year, and have failed to address that. We still have nobody that can stretch the field for those bombs that Cam can throw, and is a strength for him.

I just clearly defined what I meant by game manager above. I said, and I'll say it again just for you. A manager not as Jake, but a manager like Wilson or Kaep that doesn't have to throw first all the time. Cam will be a much better QB if we can give him a run first offense. Look at Wilson and Kaep, they're winning game by tough defense and running the ball to set up the passing game. Game don't need to throw 30-35x a game.

I mean, jesus, maybe being able to stop Atlanta from going 99 yards in a minute might just help Cam win a couple more games.

Or Cam not feeling he had to score every possession or having to run for his life repeatedly........

I am honestly laughing that you've made this post.

"Guys! Didn't you see! We still have Pilares!!!!"

This fantasy land you guys concoct for yourselves is just incredible.

When Pilares has been in the game he has made some big plays. But if you want to exit the "fantasy land" of developing talented guys (lol) let's talk fact then.

Top 12 in:

Yard per drive (9th)

points per drive (12th)

TDs per drive (9th)

TOs per drive (9th)

drive success rate (10th)

But know where we struggled?

average starting field position (28th)

Know what helps with that and makes the offense better as a result? Defense and special teams,

So we are pretty much top 10 across the board on offense with everyone coming back and our QB getting better.

So why am I in "fantasy land" for not worrying as much about our offense again??

The offense will be under less pressure to score when our defense is top 5 thanks to an unstoppable pass-rush and stellar linebacker play. Cam can make smarter decisions with the football with true running game support instead of the ridiculous use of nonstop read-option we had for most of the season last year. He'll have time to step-up & make good throws with Kalil back on the field and better guard play, if Kugbila betters Hangartener's protection either by competition or replacement.

I don't feel sorry for Mike Shula in the slightest.

so I guess you have a point that we can get some value on unrestricted free agents. Samn why doesn't the fo think like you? How dare them?

It's too much for us to ask you to understand basic concepts.

Instead of our players walking for free....we trade them while they are worth something....

once again not hard.

Huddle experts wanted K Allen at 14 when the entire NFL did not want him until the 3rd round.

Huddle experts wanted Jesse William at 14 when the entire NFL did not want him until the 5th round.

And now the Huddle experts are slinging their well informed sour grapes at each pick.

Hey guys, go get a job, buy a team, and draft whoever the heck you want. Al Davis, when he got senile, would draft only with a stopwatch in mind and you see what it got him. Quit whining.

Haha quit whining?

Dude, you'll be one of the main ones in here "whining" when the offense looks bad or is mediocre again next year and will be wanting to blame Cam Newton for all of it. He already takes the most hits of any QB due to our piss poor offensive line, and our WR group isn't a great group. He took most of those hits waiting for one of our so called "talented" offensive weapons to get open. Aside from Steve Smith, all of our WR have trouble getting separation. Smith has trouble with it at times as he's no spring chicken and has clearly lost a step.

We didn't address any of that this draft. This is a passing league...all of you old-fashioned, "defense wins championship" folks will see next year. Even those top defenses that were in the playoffs, we're giving up damn near 30+ ppg in the playoffs.

Wait. Is that the winner who wanted to start Derek Anderson last season?

    • I mean, you're acting like we don't see the tippy-toe bunny hops, jump throws more than normal (with both feet dangling in the air every which a way), and off-platform but off-balance throws that arrive lshort or sail high. Could that be bad mechanics due to being short? Could a seeming propensity to bail the pocket towards the sidelines early as opposed to sitting in the pocket tall and strong, surveying his reads be an attempt at trying to see an open throwing lane? I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't a contributing factor to what has been an underwhelming display of executing the QB position, but this is year three, and if the lightbulb hasn't switched on by now---if you haven't figured out that guys are faster, stronger and generally more athletic, then what's it going to take? It's hard to forget that "mental processing" was supposed to be Bryce Young's superpower. Are you telling me that he can't nail down such an easy concept as, "I can't get away with the things I did in college at the pro level," is that right? If he can't get past that, then that surely limits his ability to successfully execute all the other stuff.  Look, I'm not trying to be flippant. I acknowledge that playing pro football is more complex than a lot of fans realize, but all we can do, as fans, is observe. One of my favorite things to do is just look at the greater picture and think what part human nature is playing in the many decisions that are being made or have to be made. You're absolutely correct that fans don't know exactly what's going on, but that is by design, and in many ways it's just the nature of the beast. Some things we can't know. That being said, the professionals screw the hell up all the time. The professionals disagree all the time. These disagreements can be within the same franchise or from franchise to franchise. And sometimes these decisions are all over the place, so excuse me if I ain't exactly buying the I-know-more-than-thee sentiment and that that means that professionals always make better decisions than fans would about certain players. Some of this stuff is simply luck or a crapshoot.
    • Then please take a vacation from the team.
    • In addition to his weak arm he has to compensate in the pocket by throwing off his toes due to his height. Respectfully, its a handicap.
