2014 Mock Draft

I would like to see those numbers and see how many players are actually starting in the NFL for more than 3 seasons and didn't flame out.

Couldn't find that, but this is interesting as well.

The fact that an NFL team will take the best player for their team is manifested in a number of ways.  First, let’s look at the top three performers in each major statistical category (yes, three is arbitrary…but at least I admit it).  This includes stats in passing (QB rating, yards, TDs), rushing (yards and TDs), receiving (receptions, yards, TDs), and defense (solo tackles, sacks, interceptions, forced fumbles).

Because of ties, the total number is 43.  However, there are several repeats (e.g. Chris Johnson is the leader in rushing yards and tied for third in touchdowns) so the actual nis 33.  Nevertheless, here is a look at the conference breakdown:

  • ACC : 5
  • Big 10 : 5
  • Football Championship Subdivision : 5
  • Pac-10 : 4
  • Big East : 3.5
  • Conference USA : 3.5
  • Big 12 : 2
  • Independents : 2
  • SEC : 2
  • Sun Belt : 1

barring any trade up that shouldn't happen, unless we pick in the top 5-10, we aren't going to get anything close to an aj green/julio/megatron. talent that good gets drafted early.

count on making in effort, but not drafting a sure thing at WR after that. the same people bitching about the idea of taking a WR at 14 this year will be doing the same thing next year because they are deluded into thinking that no WR that isn't at that level shouldn't be drafted in the first except maybe late.

Both are quality receivers, but I disagree with you. Lee has great intangibles to his game, but the same could be said for Watkins. Both have great hands, run great routes but what is the main difference? Speed. While Lee is a little taller, he runs around a 4.5-4.6 40 dash. Watkins is a world class athlete that can run a "4.2 something". Sammy Watkins is going to destroy defenses and I want him in Carolina.

I don't know where you're getting those 4.2 numbers from, but Watkins has a 100m of 10.57 which equates to somewhere in the range of 4.49-4.54

Irrelevant though, because straight line speed means jack....

You are right. It wasn't a 4.2 something, that was a different player for Clemson. But he did run a 4.39 according to this source.

But I agree, straight line speed is pretty useless. I just think Watkins can outrun just about anyone on the football field.

Watkins is diverse and fast....Nuk is a better WR

Watkins has more ability than him, and like i said he still has one more year of college ball to approve. And he still would go higher in a draft with both of them in it. Just like Patterson would have went higher than Nuk if there werent questions about his mental game.

Even though I think we'll be out of range to get him, it will be the suck for Jadeveon Clowney show this year. Maybe Gettleman can pull a Madden trade and get Oakland to swap 1st rounders with us.

I don't think we're going to be that bad

Sammy Watkins plays for Clemson who is in the ACC. But I agree, the "mighty" SEC is made out to have dominated the draft, but these are the number of draftees from the last five drafts by conference.

  • SEC : 187
  • ACC : 184
  • Big 10 : 159
  • Pac-10 : 159
  • Big 12 : 148
  • Football Championship Subdivision : 90
  • Big East : 89
  • Mountain West : 61
  • Conference USA : 44
  • MAC : 44
  • WAC : 44
  • Division II : 25
  • Independents : 18
  • Sun Belt : 13
  • Division III : 4
  • Canada : 1
  • Community College : 1
  • NAIA : 1
Three more players than the next conference is not much of a "domination" if you ask me.

I know Watkins and Clemson is in the ACC. Im just saying its getting ridiculous hearing people say they don't want a player as good as Lee just bc he's from USC. And hearing people act like they don't want any players from a small school or not a SEC team.

Robert Woods is going to explode in the NFL and Lee is up next!
