the growth of silatolu...

saw him mentioned the past couple days after people looked at how the panthers did and where pressures came from and rushing went through. his progress was tracked throughout the year and the amount of growth looks pretty impressive...at least compared to where he started off (which was like pretty much any rookie OL asked to start).

#Panthers ran it up the middle 58% of their plays, 9th highest in NFL.Silatolu improvement+Kalil return = much improved running game in 2013

Re: @AminiSilatolu, our charting has him with 18.5 blown blocks on runs/passes Weeks 1-9, only 6 blown blocks Weeks 10-16. #RSPWP2

#Panthers adjusted line yards also went up from 3.04 in Weeks 1-9 to 3.91 in Weeks 10-17, partly thx to @AminiSilatolu improvement.

an inferior site did a little write-up about silatolu based on work done by aaron schatz with football outsiders in those last couple comments.

here's hoping the growth continues and that we see the same type progress with kugzilla.

I'm expecting him to be better. Firstly he was a rookie and secondly, he wasn't playing even close to this level of competition in D2 ball.

The learning curve he had last season added to this offseason, we should see a much more improved and consistent Silatolu. He has the tools and shown the work ethic to fully expect this.

Now if only we could see improvement from the right side...............

A lot of people were doubting this kid after the first 8 or 9 games. A lot of name calling about his intelligence and the level of competition he played in college, justifiably so. The stark difference from the first half to the last half of the season was clearly visible. What was so amazing about it, was the loss of Kalil. For a rookie to up his game without the help of a Pro-Bowl center was really astonishing.  Seems like he would have regressed even more after Kalil went down.

I remember a couple plays Amini getting to the second level and putting on a fuging clinic. Got me out of my seat a few times.  More consistency in his game, obviously, and we will be reaping the rewards of this second round pick. And yes hopefully Kugzilla follows suit, I have no doubt he will work his hardest.

i liked silatolu when i first started seeing about him a couple months before the draft. i loved what i was hearing about him and the few things i saw of him. i felt good that we had gotten a guard with a lot of potential, but i expected a rough start, just like any rookie OL asked to start. i've said it many times, except for maybe a couple taken in the early part of the first round the last 10 years, rookie OL all look like they have roller skates under their feet and they all make a lot of mistakes.

i knew he would improve, tho. it happened, and the same thing will happen with kugbila. i do hope that he shares reps with hangman or some other vet, but he will eventually become the starter and when he does he'll start off rough and get better as the season goes on.

We also get Kalil back.

Don't give this guy the time of day.

You also have to keep in mind, despite the prevailing wisdom here, that changing from T to G is a challenge. To do so from the level he played to the NFL, as a rookie, made it a HUGE challenge.

I'm really happy with him and think he'll be very good for a while. The interior of the OL could very well be a strength in the near future rather than the liability it became.

    • Never been. Going to a concert there Thursday night. Decent tailgating opportunities in the parking area or no? I see people are going to the beer hall to grab a beer to get their parking validated. Seems like a good plan to me. I'd like to smoke a brisket and do a decent spread of food but I just don't know if the parking setup allows for it.

    • Bryce also has a degree in psychology. He has an uncanny ability to compartmentalize things in a way that allows him to enter his second NFL season with optimism that he can still be the player who was worthy of being the No. 1 pick of the 2023 draft despite the kind of rookie year that has destroyed others in his position. Young credits that in part to his past. He graduated from the University of Alabama in three years with a degree in psychology. His father was a therapist in the mental health field for 20 years. His mother was a special education teacher, and his grandfather was a psychologist. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40334565/bryce-young-developing-leader-panthers-year-2
