You also have to keep in mind, despite the prevailing wisdom here, that changing from T to G is a challenge. To do so from the level he played to the NFL, as a rookie, made it a HUGE challenge.

I'm really happy with him and think he'll be very good for a while. The interior of the OL could very well be a strength in the near future rather than the liability it became.

much like the interior DL.

i am really liking how the interior of both lines are looking for the future.

now the only issue that remains is OT. we've got to find gross's replacement and an upgrade at RT.

of course we could shift gross back to RT, but i don't know how much of a mauler he'd be anymore.

Am I missing something about Kalil? I know he had that Lisarc(sp) injury that McFadden had. But he's had a LOT of time to heal. Is that a really bad injury?

i think it's just paranoia from having other guys that should have come back stronger after being on IR and went back on IR again.

i think most are going to be on pins and needles until they see that he's 100% again and can maintain.

I'd be more worried about a RB with that injury then a Center, but ok i can get that.

There's always uncertainty when dealing with injuries, until you can see them back and comfortable then I remain wary.

Gettis is a good example. His knee was fine last year, but he wasn't comfy with it mentally so he overcompensated and ended up with a hammy injury.

If we stay this damn slow at work I'll hop on NFL Rewind and watch just him.

I did this for the divisional games, and Silatolu looked better and better. It also showed me how rough Hangartner was along with how Bell was another weak link.

It's also how I noticed DJ Campbell getting abused like an underpriviledged youth at Second Mile vs. the Saints :(

How much of a "mauler" would he have to be? He's still a very effective run blocker based on technique and he'd be in a more favorable position on the right side in terms of pass protection.

I really like Bell and want to see how he does in his third year before we try to replace him. Now that we have addressed OG, I'd have no problem looking at LT in the next offseason. Biggest needs for me now are at LT and WR- based solely on age of current guys.

it's the overcompensating for any player that takes place.

they may say they are confident in their recovery and that they are healed up, but the truth remains that 1) the injured part is likely not quite totally healed and may still be weaker and 2) that they will have in the back of their minds that they have to protect that injured area and cause the muscle groups around it to work harder and that can lead to trouble.

the body healing is just one aspect of it. injuries are almost as much mental as they are physical. it effects how you function.

thats a good question that i was thinking of. i don't know how important is is to have one there, but from a pure power aspect, if that's what we are looking for on the right side, i just don't know how much he'd still bring to the table. it's been a few years since he played on that side and that wasn't really his natural side anyway.

as far as bell, i just don't see him being the answer long term. i hope he proves otherwise, tho. i saw growth in year one, but i really didn't see that much in year two. i see him as just serviceable.

i agree that LT and WR are among the top priorities, tho. i'd just add RT until bell shows otherwise.
