How far back do you want to go? What is relevant when it comes to backs?

 

Like I said Bradshaw has missed more games then Williams in his career. But if you compare the stats with them both on the field I'm pretty sure Deangelo has been more productive.

I like D-Will just like the next guy. I have two Panthers jerseys, one of them being 34's, so I respect the man as a player and a person. That being said, football is a business at the end of the day. Many beloved players leave a void in the locker room and maybe even an entire city when they move on. All you can do is show some class and wish them well on their journey, and show them some respect when/if they cross your path in the future. In football, there is no shame in being sentimental for a moment in these types of situations, but players and fans have to move on.

I don't know. But in order to compare RBs we should at least be intellectually honest about it. To throw out overall rushing numbers without providing that kind of context is misleading.

The last two seasons their overall numbers are very similar.

Yet Deangelo played in all 32 games as opposed to 26 for Bradshaw, but still had 62 less carries.

So in the last two seasons Williams has been more healthy, been as productive, and has done so in significantly less carries.

And your argument fails when you factor in his salary the last two years

Dwill could rush for 100 yards this season and you'd still have people saying he deserves to be on this team, give me a break. Btw, this should be Cam's team now, he should be the leader of this team now. Dwill's locker room presence hasn't helped us win many games of late, so I could care less.

More likely just a case of opposite personalities between Smith and Williams. One clowns around with team mates, the other punches them.

I just can;t see DWill being a locker room problem.

I could see him bitching about not getting many touches like he did early in the season.

If we are already under the cap, why would we make our top 10 offense effectively worse until we absolutely had to?

 

I understand his contract is bad.  I am not a Deangelo crotch sniffer, but would like to field the best team possible next season.  I don't see any FA that would effectively compensate for D-Will's production.

 

As far as future contracts are concerned the cap is always easily manipulated so I think Gettleman and company have an effective numbers cruncher that knows what they can and can't do.

 

I am not a salary cap expert, but since March has passed couldn't we still sign someone and go over the cap and then make adjustments to get back below it before the start of the regular season?  With that in mind don't you think we could keep him on the roster until we sign someone else that can make is better?  Maybe we don't save quite as much cap space as cutting him before June 1 but it keeps our offense in tact until we have a better option personnel wise.

 

Some of you guys just want to cut D-Will for the sake of cutting him.  I don't mind cutting him if it makes us a better football team.  I am confident Gettleman and company can work around cap restrictions and future contracts like all teams do every year.

If you think Gettleman is going to keep dwill after this season, then you are very mistaken. Gettleman already cut Gamble who was our entire secondary, he won't hesitate to cut dwill who has been mediocre his past few seasons here. RB's are a dime a dozen.
