Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

Make Wallace signed for 60 million, 20 guaranteed

Harvin signed for 67 million, 25 guaranteed

Greg Jennigs signed for 47 million, 18 guaranteed.

SO are we bashing Gettleman for not spending money that doesn't exist on his ledger?

You just asked about what talent existed....

Teams can create room. Teams can tweak things. Just a game of numbers. Maybe one could of been had...maybe not.

Only way one could of been had would have been for Gettlemen to start reshaping this team NOW vs waiting until after Ron's audition season.

I thought they should of drafted talent not gone through FA.

Can't be mad at the Star and Short picks.  We had neglected the position for far too long and it had to be addressed with REAL talent, and so we did with two picks that can't even really be argued against in regards to value.

That being said, I have been giving a lot of thought to some of the arguments I've been hearing on various shows in which I keep hearing:

"What do you do with a young QB?  You keep bringing him in weapons to prop him up until he's ready to fly on his own."

I keep wondering, have we brought in enough legitimate weapons to help Cam?  I'm actually slightly more troubled that we didn't address TE and give him a legit/proven option outside of Olsen.  A lot of teams are going with 2 capable TEs, and unless one of our lesser known signings pans out, then that TE position is looking really thin.

As far as WR...  I can't really judge right now.  Smitty, LaFell, Hixon, Ginn, Pilares, Adams, and then we have a guy who has flashed and is reportedly a weapon in waiting in Gettis.  Then the potential that a guy could play his way up from the PS.  We'll see.  It's possible we already have all the weapons.  I maintain that Gettis is going to be a difference maker and I'm hoping Gettleman feels the same.

I figured "that we could afford" would be implied for readers.

Hey Gettleman! I need to you tweak 20 million dollars today! Get on it!

Well, I have gone on record many times...I was a supporter of drafting WR talent....it made sense. Carolina isn't really building around Cam....which is sad. Our situation around Cam looks much better in our eyes than the outside world. Imagine if Ron goes this year and Smitty retires....sucks to be Cam.

I did not see the talent that was available where we picked unless we reached.

Do you spend tons of money on an offense to surround Cam while risking not being able to afford him long term? Or do you spend an average amount on the offense around him, sign him long term, and hope he can elevate players ala Tom Brady.

If Cam needs more weapons that Stew, DWill, Tolbert, Smitty, LaFell, Hixon, Ginn, Olsen to be successful......then he is nowhere near the QB that we all believe he is.

Actually, shows such as NFLAM and the like have cited Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the archetypes for this philosophy of continuing to add talent around a QB.

the WR's that were there in the 2nd round are NOT any better than LaFell.

And, if you would have supported taking Patterson or Hopkins over Star at #14.....well, then there is no point in having any further discussions here.

What people don't understand is, we would have been in the playoffs last year if it weren't for crazy playcalling.  Cam has enough weapons to get this thing done when it comes down to it.  Cam has a better group of guys, than Brady did in his three superbowl seasons.  Brady didn't have a superstar receiver during those times.  He didn't have a great RB during his first two superbowl runs.  No, it was a great defense and great QB play that lead them to those victories.

I'm excited for our defense this year.  All we really need is to bring in a corner and we are straight.

We have built around Cam.  We have brought in a first round tight end in Olsen, we have an All pro in Smith and a productive second receiver in LaFell.  Ginn was a first rounder who has not been used to his potential and Hixon is a solid number 3/4.  We have 2 pro-bowl linemen and got a second round guard last year.  We have 2 first round running backs and a very productive guy out of the backfield in Tolbert.  We have given Cam plenty of weapons.  I fail to see how bringing in a guy in the second round to compete for the number 3 or 4 slot on the team would be addressing the position well while not doing so means we neglected it.  I would expect that from talking heads, not someone who say they actually follow the panthers and know the team.

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
