Steve Smith looking forward to WR Competition. Cutting of Keiser lit a fire.

I never brought up numbers as a consideration. Just the talent level is better with Hixon than Murphy. Murphy's lone edge over Hixon is speed. Hixon is the much better WR in every other area.

Hands? Go to Hixon. Route running? Hixon wins that one as well. Running with ball is something Hixon is very good at. Murphy? Not so much. Athletic ability goes to Hixon as well. Throw in the fact that Hixon can fill in with the Return Game, and it is easy to see that Hixon is a huge upgrade over Murphy.

I will admit that Hixon and health are not exactly close. But he is healthy now. He is here now. And he just may be productive. If he is, we are better. I can live with that.

Murphy had a chance to become our #3. He let it slip through his hands. OOOOOH!

Hixon has been in the League 1 more year (even thought he only played 2 games in 2011) but has 13 less rec. (102-115)  with 99 less targets (168-267) and 1 less TD. So off the gate you can see Hixon has better hands by a wide margin. Murphy his rookie season had 96 targets and only 36 rec. that not good. So do you need more evidence?

Hixon was an up and comer early in his career. He was supposed to become a #1 until injuries sidelined him long enough to allow younger guys to come in and take over. He has great hands and is super explosive off the line of scrimmage - almost never gets jammed at the line.

If my memory serves me correctly, he played mostly on the outside and has the speed to take the top of a Defense. I think he can move outside and allow Smitty to move in to the slot where he belongs. Gettleman knows Hixon. This wasn't some shooting from the hip choice. Hixon is better than many give him credit - as long as he can stay healthy.

So, my opinion alone isn't enough to sway you? lol

Everything I posted is pretty much taken for granted. Hixon is a superior WR than Murphy. If healthy. And right now Hixon is healthy.

KK gave you some good stats as well.

Murphy had his chance. Evidently he didn't take advantage of it because he is not here anymore. You can't hold on to every player that walks through the doors. Some are here today, gone tomorrow. Murphy just happens to be one of those gone tomorrow guys. Or gone anyway.

Hixon has 8 years experience, Murphy has 5. That's 3 more years. And thank you, it seems Hixon has much better hands. Is there evidence that he is a superior route runner and better with the ball in his hands?

Hixon was healthy in 07, 08, and most of 09. During that time he was passed by Manningham and Nicks. Injuries certainly hurt his career but he was getting passed by younger guys while he was healthy.

Naw I prefer some facts when talking about who is better.

I only see 5 season worth of stats. Practice Squad doesn't really count as exp. to me.

Plus when does being able to catch the fuging Ball enter as a important trait to have as a WR to you?

I am somewhat surprised that the cutting of a role player who was injured a lot last season would create tension.  Now if a long time vet and consistent starter were cut, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some tension.

Keiser was a better version of Nick Hayden. A guy with a very low ceiling that stuck for years in a franchise that rewarded mediocrity. Gettle said Keiser wasn't good enough so let's not waste any time. The players haven't seen that before.

He was drafted in 2006, he may have spent that season on the practice squad but he played in every game in 2007 so he still has 2 years on Murphy. And I said he has much better hands than Murphy so I don't see the point of your question.

The point is he is a better WR because he can do the most important thing a WR should be able to do way better then Murphy.

Catch The Ball.

Was that hard to see??

Where did I disagree with that?

Well, I am thinking---perhaps wishfully, I concede---that Ginn has the higher upside than Hixon even though he has reportedly had suspect hands throughout his career. He's catching everything now, according to Rivera. I'm not getting excited because Hixon can catch the damned ball, he needs to do more than that. When you're dealing with players with a middling ceiling, overall production becomes even more important. I want Hixon and especially Ginn to produce up to their capabilities, otherwise I won't consider either one of them anything more than an infinitesimal upgrade over Louis Murphy, if that.

It is nice to at least have a lot of option. And still this competition  should bring out the best in all our WR. So this is wishful thinking you can have about this position.
