Fred was a good friend of one of my neighbors (years ago when we lived in a subdivision near the UNCC area).  They came over many times when we had cook outs and block parties.  She would usually end up in screaming matches with him.  He tried not to argue with her, but she woudl never let it go.  It got to the point that it was ridiculous.

 

He was a great guy...she was a flaming lunatic.

I also found your comment that it would be a better thread if she had killed a child offensive to say the least. I'm sure you didn't mean it the way it came off, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

 I read that she was running a daycare along with someone else, not that she was a camp counselor. I equate running with owning and she can own a daycare and not come in contact with the kids at all, that's the employees job.

My comment on being a better thread if she had killed a child simply means that what she went to jail for had nothing to do with kids. If she had killed a child the thread would be more relevant. However I did not read that the other woman did and with that, I disagree... If anything rubbed you the wrong way it was your own interpretation...

She is not "entitled" to work with children.  If she want to go sling food at IHOP, fine. Work in retail, fine.  But two murderers working daily with kids? WTF? There is a reason you have to pass a background check to work with children in almost every setting.  Ummm, I am guessing "murder" would probably raise a red flag.

Yes it would but I'm sure the circumstances around her situation plays a part. But the other woman that killed a child working with kids, I completely disagree with

Still can't believe the DA didn't press murder charges, at a minimum of 2nd degree.  

 

8 years in prison for murder is an absolute joke.  Anyone saying she deserves a second chance is foolish.  She deserves to be stuck in prison for at least 20 more years.  

 

Hell, she is 33 and probably rich from Fred Lane's life insurance and bank accounts.  Fred is dead.  Who deserves the second chance here?

A second chance is debatable: after someone serves their time for a crime, legally that is their 2nd chance. Personally I believe in an eye for an eye, but that's not what we have. 

If memory serves me she said that she feared for her life. I know that I don't know if that's true or not and you probably don't either but everyone has their opinions. Mine is based on the current legal system, that I don't always agree with.

I'm all for re-integrating ex-cons into society if they have "rehabilitated" themselves.  

 

My two points are 

 

1.  She deserved more than 8 year sentence (6 year served) for murder.  There is no evidence of domestic abuse.  Obviously, I am not a lawyer, judge etc, but I think she was lying through her teeth.  

 

2.  An convicted murderer has no place around other people's children.  ESPECIALLY if the parents of the children do not even know.

 

If my son went there, I would be absolutely furious.

I've known Ms. Gary since we were 6th graders together in Columbia. Would have been surprised that she was working with children even before the incident with Fred Lane. Fairly intelligent young lady, but was never very stable emotionally.

 

Came from a very well-to-do family, and a sense of entitlement was strong in this one.
