Free Agent Guard update: Brandon Moore, Travelle Wharton

Per Rotoworld--Sorry if this info is embedded elsewhere.  I have a job.

Former Jets G Brandon Moore is expected to retire.

Moore started 142 games over his solid 10-year career, making a Pro Bowl in 2011 and grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 4 overall guard last year while starting all 16 games. He drew interest from the Lions and Dolphins in free agency, but it appears that his salary demands were too rich in a down market. At age 33, Moore didn't want to play on a minimum kind of deal.

The Raiders are interested in free agent G Travelle Wharton.
Wharton, who was released by the Bengals on Monday, has met with the Panthers and was scheduled to visit the Broncos. It's unlikely the Raiders will be able to offer competitive money despite their need for offensive line depth. Unless that changes, Wharton is not expected to work out in Oakland. Reports from ESPN NY are saying that Moore isn't going to retire at all, he's just waiting for the right opportunity and wants to be a starter getting paid starter money.

That makes Moore (heh) sense.  I don't blame him either.  If he's #4 in the league at his position he should be getting paid as such.

What I do see is this:  We ain't payin' the man what he wants and he ain't playin' for what we payin'.

I think we will sign Wharton.    I also think this cap room is to sign Mikell.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
