Yahoo Sports Chimes In: Gettleman Comments "Insane"

Right or wrong and regardless of circumstances, this is going to become a needless story now.

JR is not going to be happy with his GM, and Gettleman is going to have to clear this up.

That is exactly why I said what I said earlier, ie, this is going to be another thing in the media!

He actually makes a very good point...

The only problem with the article is that no one really knows what Gettleman meant except Gettleman. The writer is clearly speculating that Gettleman was referring to Cam... however, it's very possible that Dave was referring to the whole team when he said "it's time to start winning".

guys, think about it, if fans are upset cam is getting the blame, and news reporters are upset cam is getting the blame, how do you think the rest of the team feels when its basically their fault.  This wasnt DG taking a shot at cam, this was DG, trying to get the rest of the team to take responsibilty and elevate their game.  Its a bit of mind manipulation but should work..

Hello David Gettleman's brain, can you tell us if you are thinking of o-line help.

Either (and i hope) this was taken completely out of context.

or

Gettleman doesnt beleive that Cam has the leadership abilities to wins Lombardies after his youthful  abilities diminish.

OR.. maybe this is a ploy to get more pressure on cam to MAKE him more "in charge"

i dont know but these comments sound a little personal and to me sound like they are based on something other than talent. we all know cam has talent.

Am I the only one who took the "elephant" in the room to mean the team's record (13-19) is what is holding cam back.  Why is it that reporters and the media are saying he said that was CAM's record.

Gettlemen didn't say that.  He said that they need to start winning, that they have the QB of the future and he's really good but that's been overshadowed by the team's record over the last two years.  What's wrong with that???  ITS TRUE.

People are making this into something that it isn't.  And its idiotic.

I'll tell you what the elephant in the room is its the damn defense. Since drafting Cam the focus has been about 70/30 building up the defense. I've never seen a team draft a qb and do so little to help him. Is Cam perfect hell no he's only played two seasons.

I think we sometimes forget how young Cam is because of what the other young qbs are "doing"

RG3-Kirk Cousins steps in and throws for more yards in a game than RG3 had all season!

Russel Wilson-was on training wheels while playing with a stellar defense.

Andrew Luck- was asked to do a lot and that team had a magical season or maybe their schedule was magic.

Colin Kaepernick- Alex Smith was having a career season behind that line and defense. Lets not forget that.

Cam Newton- horrible offensive line with a secondary that might be taking bribes.

    • I think you have to factor in that we're still not an attractive proposition for Head Coaches. You're not getting the cream of the crop if you fire Canales a year after winning the NFC South, especially considering the situation he walked into.
    • Yeah, I was about to say I hope he's doing okay health-wise because he's not looking good in that pic.
    • Honestly, I dont  think he should be on the hot seat yet. A bad start to next year, then yes. Despite our mistakes on play calling this past season, we played better than anticipated overall. Bryce showed improvement and maturity (although still not nowhere close to our expectations). Better record and 2-15 to 5-12 to 8-9. Despite what we feel the stats dont lie we are improving by 3 wins a year. Could 11-6 be our expectation. That's a high bar but at the rate we are going, thats what its looking like. We all want to see a 5-12 to a 13-4 record but we are methodically moving up. Success doesnt happen overnight (well in most cases).  IMO we are struggling mostly on the defensive end. LB and edge are our biggest weakness. I see Bryce making improvements (even though I was a Bryce hater) next year. Biggest concern is LT on offense. How to fix this? We need a big name edge or to trade up and get a big name edge or LB and pick up one in FA and draft one. Also if in the 3rd we can pick up a TE. Dont know if Sanders is the answer or Tremble (even though I love Trembles blocking and power after the catch). If these two can get their footwork together they would be great. Maybe all they need is a better TE coach. And if Brooks can stay healthy and be the back we thought he could be, man that would be great
