OK, it's a little early but I'm not so sure we need Hixon. And, how 'bout Gettis?

This is what I was going to say and I love gettis. I slept through the second half but saw his two catches in the first. Both I believe were on third down for first downs, but both were caught completely against the body and not with the hands. I player like that is good for about 3 interception a year from balls bouncing off his chest protector.if he can't catch with his hands we can't use him.

He jumps in order to get the body catch, which means that it is not a coincidence (just where the ball was thrown).  That obviously causes you to break stride and makes you vulnerable.

im sorry but pilares has got to go.

just isnt dynamic enough.

Yeah, right. I smh at this JAG mentality regarding our WRs that has seemingly seeped its way into the fan base, if not the actual culture of the Panthers organization since Moose first went to Chicago.

I prefer playmakers at WR, not FIGS (fill-in guys).  I at least want guys with a semblance of upside, so that I can at least fool myself about feeling better about our WR corps.

Gettis had 2 or 3 "body catches", which is what he is good at.  Do not crown him until you have seen a few over the shoulder throws or an "away from the body" ball.

in Gettis defense, those where the proper catches considering he had to protect himself from the hits he was going to take going across the middle. the playmaker Irvin on numerous times have said you should use this type of catch, when you know you are about to be hit.

I agree with your point but started back peddling when I saw you mention Reggie Smith....lol

I regret keeping Nakumara over him...as I am sure everyone does.

true, that was a horrible decision. but noting is a lock for a player who signed a 1 year contract, who cannot stay on the field.

Eh, I don't recall many people saying Smith would make the team after they actually saw him play.

Hixon has proven he is more than a capable third wide receiver and in a better wide receiving corp in New York.

point is, it was said. he has proved that he is also injury prone in NY as well. he is on a 1 year contract, and sidelined by injury. he should not be a lock to make this roster.

Exactly. This is what I was alluding to in the Rewatch thread.

One thing to remember too is the locker room.

If it comes down to Gettis-Hixon or some other combination and there's no clear cut talent or production differential, you go with the guy that will be best in the locker room.  Seems that strike goes against Gettis right now just because he seemed in Rivera's doghouse all last year.

There's a lot to be said for team chemistry.

I agree.  All I am saying is wait and see how he does when his hands are in play--that is the area where he is questioned--over the shoulder, above his head, below his waist, etc.

Although there are a couple of guys around here that like Pilares, I just don't see any justification for him being on the team this year. He gone.

5 spots are filled IMO

Smitty - (Smitty)

LaFell - (#2 Locked)

Armanti - (Great camp, players/coaches praised him)

Hixon - (Gettleman isn't getting rid of his signing/NYG guy)

Ginn - (Returner, FA, not going anywhere)

The 6th spot goes to Gettis or Adams. I've been a fan of Adams based on his return potential, but with Barner and Ginn some of that luster is lost.  If Gettis has a couple more nice games, keep him. I wish we could carry 7 WR this year, but I don't see anyway we do.

Agreed. Well Said.
