Shula offense

Recommended Posts

Looked to me like the old Chud/Norv base offense...which is good. That is why he is here. Keep it the same.

Yes, we didn't run read option. We didn't last preseason hardly, if at all. Chud got lazy and was just riding Cam's talent IMO to get noticed.

I think Shula, with this base offense he inherited and this talent.....will make Zod forgive him for those Tampa seasons he sat through.

we'll need a larger sample size to make judgements - and even then preseason isn't always an accurate representation of what's going to happen in the regular season - but the playcalling tonight was fine. a good balance of run and pass, good situational calls.

having a running game that doesn't get stuffed at the line of scrimmage every time will do a lot for playcalling too.

I was really happy with what I saw from Shula last night. I think his play calling will benefit DeAngelo alot as well as our OLine.

Side note: I was extremely impressed with Gary Williams. This guy has done a total 180 from last year. I didn't look at how he did with the 2nd team, but his 1st team reps were really impressive.

You won't see the read option in the preseason and because of that they won't even install most of it until after training camp.

That is why I think it is foolish to try and derive too much from camp and preseason to figure out how big a part it will be in our offense.

But we would be totally stupid to try and get rid of it all together.

I did feel Chicago did a good job a couple times knifing into our backfield against our starters. Williams I think got stuffed twice before he really had a chance.

I'd like to watch those again. See who was getting beat so bad. But Chicago seemed to blitz more under their new coach than traditional Bear D of the past

I think our offense will be very bland during preseason. Just like last past 2 years, the Panthers ,under Rivera, don't show their hand this early.

Amini got beat the first time on an inside stunt, he was trying to help Gross because his guy cut across but came back late to the stunt guy. They tried it again later though and Amini held it off fine, so it's a good thing he's getting these reps.

We still show some of our base looks....

And it didn't appear like Shula is going to get away from the base O we were told he was brought in to keep.

The O he inherited is basically 2011 and the end is 2012. Hopefully he can be a better situational play caller

I'm glad they let the everyone not named Gross and Kalil play with the 2nd string. They all need the reps IMO this preseason.

As much as I bitched about the zone read last year, the 3rd and 2 where Cam threw the pick would have been a good place to use it.

I think we likely would have used it in that situation in a reg season game,

I don't expect to see much (if any) read option in pre season. No reason to subject Cam to more hits in the pre season. Not worth the risk of injury.
