Anderson minus Chudzinski

Derek Anderson's best success has come during times when he's worked under Rob Chudzinski as an OC.  Away from Chudzinski though, Anderson's been up and down.  This past offseason, there was plenty of speculation he'd follow Chudzinski to Cleveland.  Most were surprised - pleasantly so - when he re-signed here instead.

 

After watching him the other night and reading some of the camp stuff, I wonder if not having him here this season will affect him.

 

Anderson's only a backup, and Newton has generally been durable.  There were, however, a fair number of 'slow to get up' plays as the season ran on last year.

 

So how comfortable are you right now with Derek Anderson as the backup QB?

 

If you're not, what could you suggest as a realistically viable alternative?

Yeah, Anderson didn't look great the other night, but with our defense and running game (Barner baby!) I still feel like we could be competitive with DA under center. Also, I don't think not having Chud here would hurt DA too much. If you look at the season when he had success in Cleveland, it was on the back of a strong running game and TE play, not read option stuff, so I'm sure he'd be fine under Shula's play calling.

I'll grant that Clausen looked decent - playing with, and against, scrubs - on Friday night.

 

Still can't say I'm especially comfortable with the notion of him as our primary backup.

I don't like any of our backup QBs. We could definately use an upgrade.

Not quite.  He's had his fair share of negative plays.

Well hopefully we'll never have to see Cam's backup in meaningful minutes ever.

I'd agree, but the team has to make a plan "just in case".  It's the NFL.  Injuries happen.

 

My question is how many are still comfortable with the current "backup plans".

I wouldn't say I'm comfortable with it but it could be much worse.  I don't see any improvements out there right now, maybe after cuts.

It was one preseason game, DA will be fine.

 

Besides, we've got more important things to worry about using our valuable cap space with.
