Trading Hardy is so logical its almost common sense.

So, our special fans don't make us special

One of our famous message board "specials" that is still talked about is a guy who started a thread expressing how beneficial it would be to move Zach Thomas (in his prime) to safety.

I swear it still comes up to this day..... "This has the beginnings of a 'zt to safety' thread"....its a meme of itself.

Doubt it would happen just based on Gettleman's defensive philosophies.  Remember the Giants had Tuck, Osi, and Strahan in their first SB run.  Then after Strahan was gone they nabbed Canty in his prime and had other good players on the Dline.  Then they went out and nabbed JPP, which at the time I thought was excessive as they already had such a good Dline.

Gettle's is def a huge fan of having a talented and DEEP dline that can be rotated and kept fresh.

Also signing Hardy now I think makes sense.  If he shoots through the ceiling like I'm expecting, or even repeats last year's numbers, his contract demands could be way too much.  We can get him now at a "discount" rate.  Even if BigFoot Frank breaks out and Hardy is expendable, we trade him with a fresh contract which could be more appealing to other teams.

Even the Raiders or Jags would not send us a 1st for Hardy. The man had "one" productive season and he's clearly isn't a top 15 pass rusher. He's no Julius Peppers or even CJ. Hardy is good but IMO he's not capable of being the no.1 pass rusher in this league. A "3rd" is realistic and I'd would take take with no question asked if we sense that Hardy isn't coming back.

Honestly I feel that hardy is better than Cj or at least on his level. Give him another year or two and this guy can put up 15 sacks on this line with an improving secondary and overall improving defense Hopefully.

I want to keep Hardy, but trading him for a 1st works for me. I personally think we could get a 1st & 3rd especially if at the trade deadline he has solid stats. I'm pretty positive the Raiders among a few other teams would have no problems giving up a 1st for him at the minimum.

Hardy is a much more athletic DE than CJ and I can very well see another double digit sack season this year. What I'm saying is I don't believe that he's on the level of a Julius Peppers in his prime or say a JPP right now. He's not the athletic freak that those guys are. Even though Hardy is very good, I dont think Hardy is a "game changing" pass rusher. In today's market only guys like JPP will receive 1st round + offers.

I'm not taking anything away from Hardy. In Free Agency, he'd probably be one of the first guy to receive a big contract from a team needy of a pass rusher. But teams aren't likely to trade away high pick(s) for one. That's just the way it is in today's market.

But, let's wait and see. This is all based on opinion. First goal is to get this guy booked for the long run.

Why would the Raiders do that when they can sit right where they are and pull the trigger on Clowney in April?
