9-2- practice updates... Some interesting news so far

While Captain is not as physically gifted, he is less likely to make a bone headed play that gives up 6.

As true as that may be, Captains role as a Nickel is far superior than starting Corner. He is more efficient at NB than anywhere else. If I am not mistaken his pick sixes were when he was at the nickel. I could be wrong but from memory I believe he was at that spot. Norman has proved he is good enough to at least start the season as the number 2 next to Thomas. This Defense will have enough pressure, constant pressure, that Norman will thrive more because of less thinking time and more reaction time.

That´s just my analysis though.

Munnerlyn starting will be a huge mistake. His man is always open. I specifically watched him all preseason. He looked worse than last season. The QBs constantly picked on him. Rivera is a dumbass.

Realistically he will be a starter, we run a very high % of snaps out of the nickel formation.  We can get consistent pressure with our front 4, Luke and TD have absurd closing speed and are very formidable in pass coverage.

I doubt we'll be asking Capt to go 1 on 1 with guys like Julio on the outside.

Rivera probably feels now that they can gameplan and put in a few custom blitzes that Captain won't have to cover for very long. He is not bad right off the snap.

Not bad right off the snap? Did u not see him giving up those slants in the Chicago preseason game, like they were going out of style?

No no no, to Captain playing on the outside.

He's a surprisingly good tackler and pass rusher for his position and more importantly, his size.

We knew that he was just an overall good football player when we took him, he just doesn't fit the mold of an elite shutdown corner.  He's pretty darn versatile and plays with a chip on his shoulder, I'm glad he's still with us.

Just when you think a good move has been made...

Let's keep Mitchell as starter even though Mikell is clearly the proven vet who should start. Oh, and lets start Captain for yet another year even though Norman has made it abundantly clear he is better right now....

Mikell has to get into game shape before being name the starter.
