Peyton Manning and his accuracy issues, should Broncos be concerned?

Just to speak to that point.  Here is a list of the overall completion percentages of the top 14 QBs in terms of % of passes thrown 15+ yards last season.  I will highlight Cam's but I'm not going to write down every name.

58.8%

62.4%

54.1%

54.8%

59.7%

57.7%

64.1%

59.8%

56.4%

59.9%

58.1%

54.3%

53.7%

57.1%

So out of the top 14 QBs in terms of percentage of throws that traveled 15+ yardage, only two got to 60% (that was Kaep and Russell Wilson)

Out of the people who did not cross that 60% threshold you have guys named Luck, Flacco, Eli, Cutler, Stafford

When you are throwing down field, you will have a lower completion percentage.  58ish% is fine for the type of offense we are running.  And that % for Cam will get better as he makes better decisions.

But his accuracy as a passer is fine

Newton is a good down field passer. He struggles with the shorter routes as has been discussed many times and it's quite obvious.

What excites me is Cam has surpassed Manning in all statistical categories to this point. If he continues to progress and has it in his head that he is going to prepare similar to Manning then Cam could be as good by that point in his career.

The NFL have changed so much from Peyton's rookie days to now Cam.

Ill just say Cam isn't Manning.

Your not going to get a 64-65% completion percentage with the type of offense that Carolina has ran the last two seasons. Max is going to be around 60% just because of how many times Cam is asked to go deep down the field. 20+ yard passes on average are going to be in the 30% completion percentage range. Cam has been near the top of the league both seasons for completion percentage over 20+ yards. He doesn't really have accuracy issues for what's asked of him in the Turner offense.

Cam's issues have been about footwork consistency and decision making.

Philip Rivers had a 64 completion % in the Turner offense

Peyton threw 5 more TD's his rookie year, Cam threw 12 less in his first two seasons.

I love Cam, but I don't think we should get carried away. He has work to do as a passer. He needs to be more accurate and more clutch to be in the same conversation as Manning.

Cam throws less tds because he runs for more tds than anyone else in the nfl at the qb position. If he didn't run for those tds he would have more through the air tds.

Geez just watching this game tonight Peyton Manning has had accuracy issues.  I know at this point in the game he has 370+ yards and 6 TDs  BUT....

He threw 7 yards behind a receiver earlier that almost resulted in a INT

He threw way behind a receiver that resulted in an offensive pass interference

He overthrew a wide open Thomas on a double move that should have been a TD

He underthrew a WIDE open Welker by about 15 yards that should have been a TD

He missed wildly on a comeback route to Decker

He has also missed on a couple of back shoulder throws

I mean, he fugging short hopped a screen.  A SCREEN.  The receiver was like only 8 yards away for crying out loud.

So my question is, should the Broncos be worried about Manning's accuracy?  Yes he has like a bagillion yards and and like 10 TDs, but until he becomes more accurate he will never be elite.

Point being, if you try and guage a QBs accuracy on a handful of throws in each game you will think every QB who has ever lived in the history of the NFL is inaccurate.

Cam's accuracy is fine, just because he misses some throws does not mean he is somehow unusually inaccurate.   Those who keep repeating this please, kindly, STFU.  kthx

Newton is a good down field passer. He struggles with the shorter routes as has been discussed many times and it's quite obvious.

Also, if he is so inaccurate in short to intermediate routes, yet he threw around the same percentage of those routes as the other guys on that list, wouldn't his overall completion percentage be way lower than those other guys rather than pretty much on par?

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
