Strong 2014 Cornerback Class

Very surprised that fans aren't talking about this group. We are devastated at the Cornerback position.

My CB Projection:

(1) Bradley Roby, OSU

I'm torn between Roby and Verrett, but giving the edge to Roby here due to his amazing instincts. Roby is a physical tackler and good in run support. He does come with off field issues.

(2) Jason Verrett, TCU
Similar to Roby, Verrett is physical, a solid tackler, and very good in run support. Verrett possess smooth hips and is a ball-hawker.

(3) Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon

Ifo had a very good game vs. Marqise Lee last season. Doesnt have great speed, but has enough athleticism.

(4) Marcus Roberson, UF
Easily the best man to man cover corner at UF.

(5) Aaron Colvin, Oklahoma
Possess good size standing at 6'0". Nice man-coverage ability and solid open field tackler.

(6) Louchiez Purifoy, UF
Athletic, physical, and a tremendous ST player. NFL scouts will drool over his abilities and size. Coverage and tackling needs work though.

(7) Antone Exum, VT (injured)

Solid in coverage and plays the ball well by knocking it out of receivers' hands. Should go higher in the draft, but injury will probably drop his stock.

Notables: Darqueze Dennard, Justin Gilbert, Quandre Diggs, Kyle Fuller

Sleeper: Andre Hal

I like Ifo better than Verrett.  He can read a QB better than pretty much anyone in this class imo.  He doesn't quite have the physical ability as Roby but he is pretty quick.

We have gone D a lot but rivera is a defensive minded coach.

I'd love to see us get Ifo in the first then if we can get a solid OL and WR in the 2nd and FA, turn around and grab another Corner who is going to drop due to depth.  Could be like a Star/KK at corner to go with the front 7 we got.

I would not mind it. I would actually like to go back to back CB if we have to like what we did with Star/KK (DTs) and ATL with Trufant/Alford. A guy like Marcus Roberson or Aaron Colvin could probably be there in the 2nd. Many would agree that Roberson is the better corner at UF than Purifoy. But, Purifoy may be taken ahead of Roberson just bc he's such an athletic specimen.

(1st) Ifo / Verrett

(2nd) Roberson / Colvin

(We'd be set at Defense for a long time.)

We can then go after an OT in Free Agency: Oher / Saffold.

Like I posted in your other thread.  I expect 1 of Fuller, Gilbert, or Diggs to fall to the 3rd due to the depth of this CB class.  Ifo most have him mocked and going around 15-20.

We wouldn't have to go back to back, grab an OL or WR in the 2nd and still grab a solid #2 corner in the 3rd.

Ifo and Diggs/Fuller/Gilbert with our front 7= best D in the NFL.

Another guy I like who could fall is Joyner.  At 5'8 he could fall all the way to our 3rd.  He has Good athletic ability.  Would not mind seeing grab him in the 4th (could be our Bob Sanders) even if we grab 2 corners top 3 rounds especially if we can grab a WR like Nicks in FA and a solid OL in the 2nd.

Exum is also a guy that I really like. If his knee checks out, he'd be worthy of a 3rd round pick. I actually feel that he should be a late 1st or early 2nd if didnt tear his acl.

I know I'm throwing a lot of scenarios out there, but we could even go FA for a veteran CB. It's a pretty good group: Shields, Browner, Grimes, DRC, Talib, Vontae Davis, etc.

Chances may be low at getting one of those guys, but I think "Alterraun Verner" could be a possibility. Verner is a very underrated corner in the league who have managed to put of very good productions for the Titans the last couple of years. Verner is already on a fast track grabbing two INTs this season. The Titans will probably not try to retain him. Eventhough he's basically their best corner, he is a suspect fit in the Titans' new press man scheme and they also drafted two corners in this past draft. He would be a huge upgrade at corner for us.

    • This is the Saints current QB room, a 2nd round rookie and former 4th and 5th round QBs.  Pretty sad when Rattler is your best option even though Shough is tops of their depth chart for right now. Dude would have been a day 3 guy in the 2024 QB class right there with Rattler.  A paper thin QB class pushed Shough to a day 2 pick.  Expect them to sign a veteran before training camp.
    • D Carr must have really disliked the saints to wait and do this announcement after the draft has passed if he made this call a few weeks before the draft sure they would have approached it and the offseason differently.  oh well will be interesting to see how their qbs perform.  would love to see them roll with Thill and just make the whole offense towards his skillset.  Although sadly would be only playing in about half the games with how often he gets injured.
    • I have to say it's quite fascinating seeing you pivot from months and months of wailing and agonizing about threads derailing into Bryce Young slingfests only for you to turn around and do the same thing. And just for the record. Nobody in life ever attained wisdom and clarity from mistakes by having people blindly fawn over them and tell them they are above reproach and incapable of making mistakes. Our front office is just as human as we are. And based on the fact that front offices across the league outside of a handful of teams change on a fairly regular basis it's safe to say they are certainly no more infallible than the average Joe even though they possess significantly more knowledge usually. If you want a utopia where all you do is shine shoes for anyone associated with the Panthers you go right on ahead and create yourself a new community sir. More power to you.
