Was Raheem Morris a better head coach than Ron Rivera?

Raheem Morris was able to scrape together a 10-6 year behind Josh Freeman in 2010.  Ron Rivera is still trying to get to .500 with Cam Newton after three seasons of only once being .500 in his coaching tenure in Carolina (Week 2 in 2012).  Was Raheem Morris a better head coach than Ron Rivera?

Raheem Morris

2009: 3-13

2010: 10-6

2011: 4-12 (started 4-2)

17-31 (.354)

Ron Rivera

2011: 6-10

2012: 7-9

2013: 1-3

14-22 (.388)

With the schedule much tougher down the back stretch in 2013, another late season winning streak is unlikely.  Rivera might very well lose the team by mid-season and have a full on collapse much like Tampa's in 2011 if the team can't win some games against weaker opponents in the next few weeks.  The amount of penalties in the Arizona game was out of control...and it might get worse....

It's really hard to say RR is a better head coach than anyone, but I do think he is a better head coach than Morris for the simple reason that the team has shown no signs of quitting on Rivera.

No better way to have the players quit on you than losing a bunch of winnable games early in the year then having to face a bunch of playoff contenders down the stretch.  Last year the players had hope that they could win and help Rivera keep his job backed up by an easy late season schedule.  This year there is no such incentive.

I don't know how much it speaks to Rivera, maybe more so to the types of players and leaders this team has...but I don't see us quitting like Tampa did in 2011.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
