Keenan Allen

Another young wr we passed on that had a big night. He's shown flashes of being really good. For a team that paid so much attention to a guy you have to wonder what made us pass on him.

For comparison:

15 220 3-Lafell

23 332 2-Allen

Lafell seems to be stepping up this year but Allen appears to be better at this point in his career than Lafell was his rookie year.

Keenan Allen was drafted in the 3rd round while the panthers packed it up and returned to the hotel room set on drafting Edmund Kugbila.

We didn't even have that pick. That pick ended up being Terrence Williams going to the Cowboys. Not having that 3rd, we missed out on T-Will, Allen, Goodwin, and Wheaton at WR. Thank Hurney but I wouldn't get upset.

Right because your picks are set in stone

Every single "look who we passed on in the draft" thread is hindsight and pointless. Every team in the league passed on him at some point, no?

Every team in the league doesn't have the WR corps we have. Steve Smith will be 35 and the only one under contract next year no?

Of course they aren't but we all knew DG wasn't going to trade up in his first draft, and we're talking a 3rd round pick.  The only WR we were in good position to take with our 3rd (4th rd) pick was Quinton Patton but that's about it.

Allen looks to be solid but we really weren't in position to take him.

He was passed up by a lot of teams because I think he ran the slowest 40 time out of all WRs, had terrible workouts, was never known as a speed guy and couldn't seem to recover easily from a PCL injury. It's understandable why teams chose to look the other way. He did look really good the last couple weeks though. Seems like a tough kid with very good hands.

    • Bryce just didn't maximize Hunter Renfrow's skills. ***rant incoming*** But this isn't just about Bryce Young mistiming passes to Renfrow so bad that he's going to get Renfrow killed or hurt, this is also about incompetentence by Dave Canales. Renfrow can still play. He's putting DBs in a blender out there---making them play twister at the top of routes to keep up with him, and dumb Dave has the nerve to cut him. How about putting Hunter in the best position to help the damned offense by appreciating his skill set, DC? You're letting Bryce's apparent inability to make an accurate throw, or at least his timidity to push the ball down the damned field cloud your judgment and miscalculate talent---or maybe just miss on talent just as much as Bryce misses passes due to playing pussified football. It's fúcking unacceptable.  Speaking of misjudgment, I don't know if it's Dan Morgan or Canales, but Eijiro Evero is not the business at DC. I have said a few times that his scheme is not conducive to run-stopping efficiency. Hell, and after watching some clips of plays, now I absolutely know why. The gaps are at least half open before the play even fúcking starts. You are setting the opposition's RBs up for success with too much damned space at the line and in the second level. If our guys are taken out in these areas---at the line and in the second level---then the defense is screwed because it must rely on the safeties to cover too much ground to make the tackle. At least put Ransom in who is motivated to seek and destroy if you're going to effectively leave the safeties on an island.  And speaking of rookies, get our two new defensive ends more snaps to see if we can't generate more of a pass rush. For all the good the continued sorry display of defense that you're putting out for fan's to see (Ejiro, Dave and Dan), you may as well get the rookies generously involved. Fúck that money we gave second-rate (maybe second-rate) vets, we need a damned spark getting after the QB. Watch it, it's just another breakdown of the sh¡t we were subjected to last week. I say this with all respect: Fúck you, Dave! Fúck you, Dan! Learn how to run a fúcking franchise. Maximize the players, regardless of what you think you're supposed to do by the book. Cut the dead weight before another season is lost and fans lose interest in September. EE is "Ew!" Or for emphasis "EEw!" /end rant
    • But nobody is saying he is a good deep ball passer.  But the facts are since he's returned from his benching, he has been throwing downfield.  Whether you want to credit the scheme, Bryce himself, or whatever, he has been pushing it deep.  Not to any positive results mind you, but it has been happening.
