Bruschi's Breakdown: Panthers vs. Pats

Recommended Posts

This one of the best analyses I have read this year about the Panthers.  Obviously Mike & Tedy do their homework and cite specific plays in past games when making their judgments.  But to top it all off, Tedy B, a former Pat allstar, picks the Panthers!

Have the injuries at guard limited the play calling for the Panther's offense? Teddy makes it sound like the blocking schemes are pretty complex.

I would say the play-calling seems the same as all season regarding scheme. However you could undeniably see how our new RG Nate Chandler had some mental lapses with his reps on run plays, so the complexity obviously got the best of him a few times. He was our fifth string DT last year who converted to LT this off-season, and now due to injuries he is our starting RG. I'm hoping he shows some positive progression from his sub-par outing last week obviously.

I try to stay away from score predictions because I am usually wrong. Call me crazy but I don't want to jinx us.

Teddy provided a very good analysis. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't a smoke analysis overview, like you typically see from ESPN analyst.

I think we match up well with the Pats but I am curious how we plan to stop Gronk. That matchup or double team will be important.

So.... he's a practice squad find who was being developed as a swing tackle who now is being pressed into the lineup as a guard. I guess that's better than a DT conversion project.

This is a strange game. The one obvious weakness for both teams happens to be the one place where these teams are least equipted to exploit. If Wilfork and Kelly were starting, you'd be screwed. If the Panthers had quality guard play, they could exploit the two undrafted rookies playing DT for the Patriots.

If the Panthers are putting up 28 (his prediction) then there's no way the Pats will put up 27. The time it would take us to score 28 means we would be dominating the clock. That would essentially mean the Pats would have to score on almost all of their possessions (five of them at the least). That's not happening.

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
