I am waiting for the news like everyone else. What is more fun is predicting what this board will do if he does/does not sign.....

Does sign:

Marty Hurney is the best GM in NFL history. Pep's dumbass agent could not protect Julius' selfish ass from the wrath of the Panther FO! I am glad Peppers finally wised up and made an adult decision that was good for he and his teammates.
Does not sign:
Marty Hurney did all he could but Pep is such a piece of poo, lazy, good for nothing Tar Heel that he just wants the money and doesn't care about the team or what he could do to help it by giving us some cap space this year. I hate him and hope he gets injured! I'm burning my 3 #90 jerseys!
Should be fekking hilarious either way

Wouldnt him making over 16 million a year this year already make him the highest paid defensive player in the league? Hell, doesnt that make him the highest paid player in the league period?

Im wondering when its gonna end? So if they cannot reach a long term deal with him this year are they gonna franchise him again next year for over 20 million?

I'd be shocked if he signed a long term deal right now, why not make a million a game and sign something long term next offseason?

He's on a 12-4 team with most of the starters returning and there are not many "impact" FA's out there to sign anymore, so it's not like he's doing the team a big favor by freeing up the cap space at this point.

What's "fekking" hilarious is both those pseudo-takes of yours are projecting the same fan attitude of disdain towards Pep so there is no "either way".

I don't see too many people around here who are painting Pep as a selfish villain (as you project) right now.

then you got the point...miraculously. Maybe I have underestimated you. On this board he will still be crucified regardless.

My point was that very few people are painting Pep as a villain right now so yours holds no water.

I laugh when you insult my intellect, BTW.

because very many people are expecting/hoping he will sign right now. If he doesn't, well we'll see and the ones who still "hate on" him will all be joined in unison to bash the guy all over again. Or maybe not. As I said I am curious to speculate on what will happen when it breaks. And I have already stated what that speculation is. Why do you insist on following me around and arguing every little comment? Just exactly what is this infatuation all about?

Glad you got a laugh. I thought it was funny too.

I wouldn't sign a deal if I were him. He probably still wants to play somewhere else, he is going to make 1 mil a game, he will get the contract after the year is up or will be franchised for even more money. The only downside to not signing a long term deal is the threat of injury, but he is almost thirty and he seems kind of flighty anyways, so he probably wouldn't be too depressed by retirement.

Doesn't matter what fans think really... I could only see the usual cancerous folk coming out the wood work to spout out ridiculous claims like that, but for the most part I think people are starting to understand this is a business..

Pep is here this year and that is good for the team. If he does manage to sign an extension, that's even better. But time is just too short for me to believe that will happen.

I have no problem with him not signing a deal. After all, in his contract year of 2008 he has a career high number of sacks. If he wants to keep playing year to year having to prove himself again and again, it isn't a bad thing. And if he has a bad year or gets injured then he is the one risking losing value. I remember that Sims did that a few years ago for Tampa,IIRC. He turned down a deal feeling he could play out his contract and get more money. He got hurt, never recovered his form and is now a backup in Kansas playing for peanuts.

Frankly if we were going to pay him 100 million for 5 years that is 20 million a year anyway. Seems we can just dole it out year by year, evaluate the results and let him go when he doesn't perform. Meanwhile we have Brown grooming to take his place. By 2011 no one is going to pay him 24 million, he will be 33 and on the downside. He can play anywhere he wants and we got all his best years. Meanwhile Brown comes in, takes his place and we spent 37 million on Peppers instead of the reported 100 million he wants.
