I remember the build up to getting the team.  Before the Panthers I didn't follow much NFL.  I was a big college football and basketball fan and a Braves fan.  My first game was the Dallas playoff game.  I've been to about 10-15 games over the years and have never been to one where we lost. 

 

What really won my heart was the 2 year outhouse to the penthouse years of 2002 and 2003.  Going 1-15 to going to the Superbowl was awesome.  I don't think I've ever missed a game although one time I did cut it off in the 3rd quarter when Jimmy Clason was at QB.

I liked the panthers a a lot when i was in highschool, however i didnt get in diehard football fan mode till i was 23 ( 7 years ago). Things like drinking and sluts get in your way when you are in your early 20's

Before. Wasn't much of a sports fan in high school but in 2002 I got into it and threw everything behind the Panthers. Wasn't really much of a bandwagon to hop on to. Hate that the Bengals game was blacked out that year, listened to Steves two punt returns on the radio.

Lol yep, people won't admit it but over half this board are Cam fans. This doesn't just include the Auburn/fanboys, it includes the people who stopped watching or never really watched the Panthers until now, or with Cam. Those are post-Newton fans as well. and no, the Cam wagon fans are NOT long gone, they are here...until Cam leaves or starts to suck. They are fans of the Panthers because they are a fan of Cam, not a fan of Cam because they are a fan of the Panthers.

For those of you that became fans post-Newton, or hell even this year, stand up and be proud. Everyone's route to becoming a fan is not the same. The only thing separating the "real" fans from the bandwagoners is their degree of loyalty.

 

Quick self-test...if you have had more than 2 favorite teams over the last 5 years, you are a bandwagon fan. If not, you are just arriving fashionably late to the party, and there is nothing wrong with that. Enjoy the ride along with the rest of us.

Panther fan born and raised. I was 5 when the team had it's first season.

 

My first favorite Panther was Biakabatuka. He had a lot of haters but the man had natural skills. I also had the pleasure watch one of the best returners ever in  Michael Bates for my first Panther game.

 

I've been lucky enough to see the highs and lows of the team. I was at the game when the falcons destoryed us with like 50 some points. I also went to the 04 playoff game with my dad when we beat Dallas. Best game ever.

I have been a diehard Carolina Panthers fan from day one. I grew up watching and rooting for the Redskins,seems they were the only team that we could get on tv at the time.

 

A Redskin  and Lions game was the first NFL game I ever attended.  I still pull for the Redskins in the NFC East but as a fan  they are a very,very distance second fiddle to our own Carolina Panthers.

i was always a fan of the Panthers since i started watching football simply because its the team of the state im from. i feel you have to ride for where your from. But because this franchise has hardly every been relevant i rooted for the colts for many years and i am still a huge fan of Peyton Manning. Drafting Cam Newton did bring my attention back to the franchise because i never liked Jake Delhommme and refused to watch while he was QB. i was a huge Cam fan when he was in college so naturally i was hype when the panthers picked him. Cam Newton was the beginning process of a new start and rising from the ashes, look where we are now. bash me if you want

If you read through this thread I already admitted that I became a fan after newton came on the team. And I gave the reasons why. I have nothing to be ashamed of and I am not going to let anyone question my fanhood to the panthers.
