Barner breakout game?

lightsout

Recommended Posts

Barner may well see more touches this game than he has all season. Williams is questionable with that contusion still, last I heard, and Tolbert and Stew are both a little nicked up.

Do you think we put in Barner a good bit and let him get at least an even third of the carries, if not the majority of the carries, for this game? And do you think he finally breaks out and makes a play that makes us all talk about him for the next week?

In my opinion this is how it will play out.

Stewart will get first down and second down touches, obviously unless we pass on one of those downs.

Tolbert gets third and shorts and goal line carries, as usual. Third and long is a passing down obviously.

So where does that leave Barner? Change of pace back with <5 carries in the game, I think. MAYBE 5-10 if he's lucky. Maybe.

I think he should get more carries. I think he could have a breakout game. I just done know how badly he's pissed off River Boat in practice this season.

I think the kid can ball, and I hope we see it it in due time... But in these games that count way too much right now... If Stew and Tolbert are available, I'd rather see the trusted and true guys in there.

If they get more dinged up... It's next man up. I hope he's ready!!

would love to see a breakout game from the rook today.  we really are banged up this week at rb with stew and tolbert limited all week.  wonder if its just a precautionary type deal and we see a good game from both stew and tolbert and barner gets maybe 3 or 4 touches but "does some nice things"

I think that Cam will have to win us this game with his arm (against a stout secondary) and his legs. Ginn better not drop another bomb for 6 in this game.

Defense will have their work cut out for them if we can't get the running game going early. Loo for Cam to go to Smitty/Olsen early and often to get into a rhythm, and God help all of our nerves tomorrow if he starts throwing high on our first drive.

Just get us to next week in a position to take the Division!!!!!!!!!

If we need him to make plays for us to win this game then we are in trouble. Hope the kid breaks out but it's not going to be today.

Oh, I'm not saying we NEED him to breakout, but given how banged up our RB stable is, this could be his chance to do some damage (unless we've just been taking precautionary measures with them this week). I think we'll make plays elsewhere and I think Cam has one of his better games of the year (and we may need him to).

Agreed. Cams going to have to play well today for us to win this game. I think it's going to be a battle today.

As far as Barner....I'd be satisfied to see him make a play where he doesn't look like a deer in headlights.

    • We agree here dawg. I'd love for Bryce to succeed as would all huddlers. I have not seen a single huddler hate Bryce for anything other than his play on the field / potential / skillset. He hasn't gotten any of the irrational hate having nothing to do with football that Cam got. And yeah I understood going into this season with Bryce again as there weren't a ton of options, but man we missed the fuging mark on upgrading at backup QB with someone who could actually push Bryce. Bryce had zero pressure on him with a 100% washed up Dalton being the only other NFL caliber QB in the system. That absolutely needs to change this offseason. Ideally with an actual starter upgrade but that seems extremely unlikely due to not having many FA options and a bad draft. But at the very least with someone like you mentioned, young/upside and/or day 3 pick in the draft.   Another note, we have a top paid and top performing OL, great young talent at WR incl. likely OROY, great RB group, average all around TE group, offensive coach with creativity in the system and good play designs (poor situational playcalling but still I put out current offensive coaching staff over Shula who held Cam back for instance). Not the absolute best situation for a QB to be in, but still a very good situation around him. And yet we have a bottom 8 offense (6th lowest points scored). Imagine taking a victory lap for a QB leading his team to the 6th lowest points scored in the league and the 22nd highest passer rating (despite being asked to do less than many other QBs; i.e. Bo Nix who isn't great either and has a slightly lower passer rating but Sean Payton actually lets him try to throw the ball deep and has him throw significantly more than Bryce). Crazy
    • similar to Atlanta and the NHL.  Atlanta has lost two NHL teams (and lost a minor leaguer).  Now there's another coalition pulling together another proposal for Atlanta to get an NHL expansion. While I'd like hockey to be back in Atlanta 'cause hockey is fun, I am skeptical that it'll happen based on previous teams' experience here alternatively: similar to Atlanta hosting a Major Tennis Tournament in advance of the US Open every mid/late summer.  Aside from the fact that Atlanta is said to be the country's largest Tennis playing city (with both USTA and ALTA, along with a number of side leagues) - playing tennis outdoors in Atlanta summer is miserable *and* they had difficulty attracting players... ticket sales were not good. So the Atlanta Open closed after 14 years.  They just couldn't make it happen, even if for all intents it appears to be massive tennis interest in the surrounding area.
    • So I saw where Luke was doing that show parallel to the game. Whatever it was, statcast something something, knew it would be a good watch. I don’t get ESPN any more but that would be one of the about few things I would watch outside of games.     He doesn’t fool around on the radio broadcast.
