GREAT article on Cam: "Don't Call It Redemption"

^^Well, the level of denial here is pretty ridiculous, call it whatever you want. Not all of it's you but we're denying the authenticity behind the words of SS, Rivera, Gross, Kalil, and even Cam the man himself because we really don't want to admit that it was true. It's venom-sad.

I haven't seen anyone dispute the authenticity of their comments. But if you are just going to simply ignore the circumstances in which those comments were made, and where the team/organization was at that point, then not many people are going to take you very seriously.

What the players, and Cam are talking about in regards to him maturing isn't in line with the narrative fabricated, and still currently being portrayed by the media. You acknowledge the "media circus" surrounding Griffin, so I'm not sure why you can't see it with Cam.

He's likely going to be a polarizing figure throughout his career, especially because of those who can't stand to be so wrong about him.

Yeah, I remember that.

Ironic and funny considering that there are times where Smitty goes into sulking mode with the quickness.

Is Smitty considered "immature" now?

I don't know. His point is still a good one. Not just the sulking part of it but the part about watching the team play just like the backups have to do every single game.

Really dude? "I haven't seen.." again? I don't make stuff up. Read the posts itt.

I see both are victims of the hype machine, depending on where you look. Are we talking about Mr. Sco-- uh I mean Nolan Nawrocki or the people who praised Cam? "The media" isn't a hivemind. The guy who wrote the article in the OP is part of the media. It's not a conspiracy.

But there is validity to it, like it or not, from his own teammates and himself like I've said a trillion times already. Probably some in RG3's case too even though I haven't followed him at all really.

One, or two posters don't speak for everyone. One guy you were arguing with isn't even a Panthers fan.

I never said it was a conspiracy.

Many in the mainstream media push the maturity line because they don't take the time to do their own research, instead falling back on the labels going back to the draft, and his first 2 seasons. Those that actually do research, and there are plenty of them, know better.

Stay on your soap box if you want, whatever floats your boat man.

Y'all making this poo too complicated.

Is Newton more mature now than when he came in the league? Damn well better be he's 24 as opposed to 22.

Is Newton maturing the main reason we're winning now? Not really but it helps.

Is the media too focused on the maturing story line? Absolutely. All thing being equal the media will sell the easiest story. They didn't make the maturing thing up. They're just playing it up to be more important than it actually is as the original article points out.

i would just add to this that newton was never as bad or as immature as the media narrative would lead you to believe.

they played up and exaggerated the whole immature thing from the beginning and now thhat they are winning they are doing it all over again. why? because it's interesting and it sells.

Newton has matured as a QB, and to some degree I would think he's matured as a young man - he is older isn't he? That's normally the way it goes with like every person in the world!

But focussing on the QB aspect, Cam has gotten really good at reading defenses and going through his progressions. I mean he is a surgeon out there at times - even last week.

Newton's maturation (as a QB) has been a steady progression. First, he showed a penchant for the deep ball and as a runner. Then, he showed an ability to limit turnovers (INTs) and improved his accuracy on short to intermediate routes. Now, he's improving on his reads and progressions. I think the next step is anticipating routes a little better and throwing receivers open.

In the next year or two, hopefully with improvement on the OL and a legitimate receiving threat, Cam Newton will be unstoppable as he puts it all together. The league better watch out. This young man improves his weaknesses to the point that they become strengths, showing an obvious dedication to his craft. Honestly could be an MVP candidate very soon.

I'll admit that I was hard on Cam at the beginning of the year. I'll even admit that I wanted them to put Derek Anderson in.

But he has proven me wrong and I will happily eat crow. He is a great player and he has "matured".

That being said, I think the media is completely over doing it when every other article and every single commentator uses the term "matured." With as much as they say it, you'd think he was acting like a 5 year old out on the field.

I love Cam and I can't stand when fans of other teams call him a thug, immature, or Sir Cameron Newton: Leader of Men, Lover of Puppies...Esquire. I'm just sitting here thinking "you don't even know the guy." He is a freak athlete and people hate him for it. Then again, these are the same people that think Thomas Davis and Smitty are thugs.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
