Browns To Fire Chudzinski [edit: he got dumped]

i hate to throw the word cancer around because i think it's overused, but in this case chud might be one on a team. he starts out good enough just because he's so smart, but it doesn't take long for you to get annoyed with him. i think a better description might be toxic and it's quite likely his ego that makes it that way.

i see him having the same future in the league as mike martz, post greatest show on turf. smart guy...just no one wants to bother with him.

True, but you went through the process and identified him as the guy - then you fire him after one season of going 4-12 with a QB carousel of Weeden, Hoyer and Campbell?

how many candidates did they go through before deciding on chud? and how many of those candidates turned them down?

chud was an act of desperation. no one else wanted the job.

the upside for the browns is now they have a poo load of draft picks to help entice a new and competant coach.

fwiw, i wouldn't be a bit surprised if they hired norv.

The fact that they wanted chip kelly makes sense as he's the guy that belichick reportedly sought advice on perfecting a no huddle not too long ago

It's so obvious this team still obsesses over the fact that they fired belichick in the 90s and he eventually spearheaded a dynasty elsewhere that they're desperate to get any piece of him anywhere. I bet when belichick eventually retires the browns will knee jerk and blow up their entire front office so they can offer him a ridiculously generous administration/coaching position that he probably will laugh off

Good point, hard to know where Chud was on the hiring depth-chart and if the reports are true that he had totally lost the team after just one year then the firing makes much more sense.

When I heard that they retained the entire staff, Norv as the next HC was my first thought... what other coach would want to come in there and inherit a staff?

The immediacy of the firing also suggests they have their sights set on their next HC and they don't want him to get away.

Don't assume the browns know what they're doing. The fact that McDaniels' name has been coming up a lot during this story is proof positive of that

They're probably the only team willing to give him a head coaching job after he royally fuged up the way he did in denver

To be fair to Chud I highly doubt any coach could win with the browns current roster. They really only have 2 elite players in joe haden and josh gordon. They have a good QB in Hoyer but he got put on IR. Its like giving a coach the 2010 panthers roster led by jimmy clausen and tell them to go win.

I mean if I had to list the reasons why chud got fired from the browns, well there are a few:

1. He's not belichick.

2. He's never worked under belichick.

3. Belichick assistants are available for interview.

4. Chip Kelly's eagles won the NFCE, and he's the guy belichick once sought for advice.

5. Belichick belichick belichick.

The only thing the browns have tried to do the past decade is emulate new england, and it all goes back to the fact that they had the guy for 4 years in the 90s and then lost him when they lost the team to baltimore. Imagine Jerry Richardson's infatuation with Pittsburgh, but 1000x more intense.

Chud had the likes of Campbell and Weeden as his starting Qb, they competed well against playoff teams

and more then one article has showed the players were behind him and furious of the firing : http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000306926/article/rob-chudzinski-firing-infuriates-many-cleveland-browns-players

http://espn.go.com/blog/cleveland-browns/post/_/id/2903/uncertainty-over-chudzinski-angers-key-players

If players are behind you till the end, if you've competed against good teams, if you have a revolving door of average and poor Qbs and overall talent , you shouldn't be fired your first year
