Week 10 Defense vs Playoff Defense

Recommended Posts

Week 10's defense was pretty dominate and hard to match  I do believe the additional 7 weeks has really made our defense better than week 10.  6 sacks and we harassed CK all day long.  They are a bit healthier than week 10 but so are we.

Davis and Kuechly are playing POY levels.   Hardy is not the same Hardy from week 10.   I think he is at a very high level right now. I believe he has 2+ sacks against the 49ers.  Joe Staley or no Joe Staley.   DB's are holding their own barring a complete meltdown we should be ok.  I also think McDermott is going to have a great game plan.   Don

I think McD will have a great game plan and will make CK have a rough day.  (of course it will be his fault instead of the defenses doing)

The total lack of respect is going to have this defense focused as hell.   I just saw on NFL Network where all of the commentators chose CK over Cam.  Some based on his overwhelming years of playoff experience (3 whole games)  And of course their road win against a highly depleted defense in GB.

IMO this defense is going to really put on a show Sunday afternoon.   I think we get 17 points from our Offense we should win.

You know they are going to try and do some quick stuff to get around the pass rush.

Just to throw a curve ball and send the message that they have no idea what to expect, I want to see an early look where everyone drops back in a zone coverage except 1 rusher - Star or Hardy (someone that can beat a double). Everyone should be covered up and the defense should be facing the qb to prevent a qb run worth anything.

Then back to you basic d-slangin, skull fuggin, and normal defensive debauchery.

Nobody mentions this but the 49ers have a bit of an advantage as they are a playoff hardened team.  This is the third year in a row that a vast majority of this team has won in the playoffs, so they know what it takes, and have the confidence of a team who has already been there.  Now not to say carolina will be pissing down their leg, but that the 49ers are just more seasoned and preparead for this situation.  Doesnt mean carolina wont play tough though, as the 49ers in their first playoffs in nearly a decade went to the NFCC.   But, this could make a real difference, the mentality of the 49ers.

Our 03 team had a lot of guys who hadn't played a playoff game as well. We went to the Super Bowl.

Experience is good, but not a game changer. Sorry.

You guys are typical homer fans. Looking at all if these"soft" things and claiming they give you the advantage.

A homer fan? Because i think having playoff experience vs a team who doesnt being an advantage, that makes me a homer?  There is nothing soft about a team who has 'been there' playing a team who hasnt.  I didnt say it would influence the outcome of the game.  It's as much as an advantage for the 49ers as carolina playing at home is for them.   Neither of those two factors will probably end up influencing who wins, but both clearly offer advantages in given situations.   Most noteably because the playoffs are a whole other animal compared to the regular season, and the 49ers have a bunch of guys who already know.  That's all that is, and that offers an advantage, whether you agree or not.  If NFL players are saying it, i will go with them over what you say on here.

    • I like what Freeling brings to the table all around. If he is willing to put in the work he has an opportunity to be one of the better Tackles in the league down the line. Hunter Brazzell and Hecht are all premium additions but development from our staff are the key to unlocking them. Hopefully Lee and Wheatley will provide much needed additional depth to our secondary. Beyond that it's important not to get too caught up in draft grades. Many drafts over the years that turned out to be really good were not fawned over with praise. While some that were ended up being historical duds. Panthers fans ought to know this as well as anyone. In conclusion...
    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
