Throwing Long on Short yardage, running on long yardage

Many times you do those things because you surprise the defense and keep them guessing.

Most defenses can stop the offense when they know what is coming.

This exactly.

How many freakin times have you seen college and pro games were it is third or fourth and less than two yards and the offense lines up heavy, fooling no one om that defense, or anyone watching at home.

Making the yardage would be a smack in the face and momentum builder, but it is predictable and uncreative.

i have been saying all year its all about 2nd and 3rd and short. for us and the other team.

 

we had SF in a bunch of 3rd and long and that plays right into our hands.

i don't disagree just mix it up, guys are stacking the box on 3rd and short and playing aggressive, can't always run in those situation. it got us a big play ex touchdown vs falcons and a couple other games

Generally true, but how often this year have we seen Shula repeatedly call plays with no checkdowns and nothing but deep, long developing routes that our OL can't provide the protection for?  Too often.

I want to see vintage Chud play calling this playoff game.  I am starting to think Legs and Murphy were more effective than I gave them credit for.  We had our most explosive plays when they were here.  You would think with Ginn and Hixon we would break records on explosive plays.  Anyways, we need those long chunk plays to spoil the morale of the SF's defense.
