Kraken Compensation

yeah I'm pretty sure it doesnt work this way. i believe the franchise tag only places him under contract for year-as a normal regular player- getting paids the average of top 5 money at his position- and gives the team the freedome to do what they wish for him and trade him for whatever they see fit.

youre thinking of tenders.

Chicken tenders?

Mmmmmmmmmmmm.....

First, let’s review the terms of the April 2008 deal. The Vikings got:

  • Defensive end Jared Allen
  • Kansas City’s sixth-round pick in the 2008 draft. (It became starting center John Sullivan.)

The Chiefs got:

and this is coming off 2 dwi's, and he was 26.

So we tag him and hope a team wants him so we get first round picks as compensation, so what happens to the cap in terms of hardys deal? How much counts against the cap? Or are we not accountable for it if another teams signs him, is that part if the trade and picks? Sorry to play dumb but so many opinions what's the fact?

Was this answered?

Get two 2nd round picks.  One this year and one next year.  get something for this man.  We can keep this guy because we can not pay him.  I'm sure Gman will tell him, hey we love you and want you but this is what we can afford and we're pretty sure you want more.  KEEP POUNDING!

The problem with tagging him is what happens if we do it and can't get a satisfactory trade offer? Not likely, but it could happen.

Then we're stuck with $12 million or so of our cap tied up and facing the same dilemma next year. Timing is important as well, as remember once the new league year starts we have to be under the cap. So if Hardy isn't yet moved, it will greatly restrict what we could do in the FA market.

With the new rookie pay scale, there is NO way anyone would give up 2 first round picks. Zero chance.

As for tagging and then getting 2 firsts, that IS for RFA's.

If we tagged him, his only option are to sign the tender or sit out. Another team could not offer more and pay us picks...unless we agreed to trade him for said compensation.

Too many here are confusing the franchise tag and RDA's tenders.

hes neither if we tag him. thats what the tag is for. Carolina can choose to match an offer or get 2 first round picks. There is nothing in between.

This isn't how it works. An RFA is restricted to us in free agency, allowing us to be allowed to sign him and match any and all offer sheets.

Hardy is an UFA, meaning he's on the open market. The non-exclusive tag does not apply here.
