As far as Smitty, yeah, he did. But, I question how much he's lost physically since then versus how he's being used due to philosophical changes between Chud year one and now Shula.

Not going to post a 100 screen shots but heres some neat info.

 

I used a 50% of teams overall snaps qualifier so there was 26 total qbs listed.

 

 his 3.09  seconds was the third most "time to throw" defined as "the point until he attempts a throw, is sacked or scrambles past the line of scrimmage" (could be an inflated by his dancing in the pocket)

 

the 2.73 seconds it takes for him to attempt a pass is the 6th longest time.

 

the 4,63 seconds before he is sacked is the 2nd most time (granted he buys more time by dancing in the pocket and hard to decipher how much of that dancing is distracting him from finding an open target)

 

at 5.94 seconds Cam holds on the ball longer than anyone before deciding to scramble (except peyton who just doesent scramble past the line at all lol)

I want a talented big physical motherfuger that won't get jammed at the LOS by a defensive back and uses his body to maintain positioning. Anybody like that in this draft?

Don't know man I sell cars (reason I had time for this thread today as we were super slow) but it requires working every Saturday so I don't have the luxury of staying up on college ball. I will find someone to latch onto again this year. Excellent post. None of us have the time even if we had the skill to go back and properly analyze the game tape to find all these answers. Plus we don't dictate what the Gettleman does by our post but its still fun to discuss upcoming possibilities in the draft and do your best to support your stance.

Can't be. Shula is an excellent OC. Right?

That is such a nonsequitor.  Just because he scrambled 16 times for first down out of a total of 20 per game or over 300 first downs hardly means anything about Shula. And just because he scrambled for a first down didn't mean he scored any points.  The reality is that he ran for 6 TDs and some of those were scripted by Shula and some were Newton innovating.

 

Sure Cam was a big part of the offense but to say that those scrambles proves anything about Shula stretches the bounds of of any kind of reality.  I know you want to discredit him but that argument wouldn't hold water in an elementary school debate.

Two guys in the NFL that I have no problem with them holding the ball too long is Cam and Big Ben

It does result in sacks but also results in big plays that keep drives alive. It is give and take with guys like that.

It's the Barry Sanders effect, he has the most negative yards ever.  Cam can make plays, and besides, it's not like receivers are wide open and he's just neglecting to get rid of the ball.
