Jordan Matthews

Solid But Unspectacular

Coming into the week Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews was widely considered to be the top prospect at his position in the game with an outside shot at sneaking into the back end of round one. Matthews hasn’t been awful by any stretch of the imagination but he hasn’t had the type of big week that most were expecting either. The best way to describe Matthews’ performance might be solid but unspectacular. With that said it’s not like Matthews has done anything to damage his stock either. Even though Matthews hasn’t been a dynamic playmaker in practice he's still caught the attention of evaluators with his dogged work ethic. Not only did Matthews specifically request tape on the cornerbacks that he would be facing in Mobile before arriving but he has also been seen putting in extra work both before and after the practices. It’s not often that you see such a professional approach from a young player. With impeccable intangibles like that it should come as no surprise to hear Matthews' cousin is the great Jerry Rice, whose dedication to his craft is legendary.

I would take Allen Robinson over Matthews easily

Allen is a better athlete then Jordan.hand size is about the same, but Allen has more wiggle and YAC ability.

Agreed. He's my #2 guy right now behind Watkins. Better speed, more elusive, and great feet. Not saying I'd be disappointed by Matthews, because I wouldn't lose sleep if he was drafted either.

It sounds as if he wont be wowing anyone at the combine given his average speed and athleticism. That could be good given he will definitely be there when we pick. I wonder who else might be at WR at 28. It sounds like he would be worth a pick at 28 but we might still get someone better if we go WR. He doesn't seem like he is a must have guy at 28 like Star was at 15 last year.

I am really, really high on this kid. When you consider what he was able to do with a horrible QB and no other credible receiving threats against the top defenses in college football, you drool. I honestly think he'll be a better pro than Watkins. There... I said it.

What you know is that he will work his tail off and understands what he needs to do in order to be successful. If he works half as hard as his uncle did he will be giving 100% all the time meaning we wont to worry about heart or desire. I think he would be a solid guy and wont make you sorry you picked him. I wonder if he will be the BPA at wide receiver at that point.
