I'm not sure where I read this but I read an article where they said early negotiations have begun with Cam. I will do some research an find out

He said in his interview yesterday that they've begun process and that extending Cam was a priority.

No he didn't. Dave said he & his staff are crunching numbers & looking at their options. As in whether they want to try & extend him now or pick up his 5th year Orion & leave him on his rookie call to save money. He isn't in contract negotiations with Cam.

My gut tells me they will try. I don't know a Cam or what he's looking for. If he's looking for Brees money, it probably won't happen and he'll want to wait and see what happens next year to drive the price up. If he's ready to get locked down long term and know where he'll spend his career and wants yo be in Carolina, it will happen this year.

My gut tells me it's time for my sweet potato fries and baked chicken with texas pete.

And no, I don't think Cam is getting extended this season more because of cap issues rather than about him being a franchise QB. Teams will sn@tch him in a hurry if he hits the market.

LOL, I can't believe "sn.atch" is censored on here.

It is? Let me try it: ******

it would be cheaper to do it now. waiting for a contract from another qb from his draft class to be inked and set the market could be disastrous.

My guess is that his agents will wait to see what the 49ers give Kaepernick before making a deal.  They want him to set the bar, and will aim to surpass it.  In no way do they want to agree to a contract only to have a lesser QB that was picked a whole round later come in and get more.

With that said, yes, he will be extended this offseason...but probably closer to training camp.

He's only played 3 years. He could play 4 more without getting a new contract.

Cam is still under contract for next season, and 2015 if they decide to pick up his 5th year option. After that they can even franchise tag him the next two years.

Even if Cam wanted out he could technically be stuck here until the summer of 2018.

That's all possible yes. But extremely finically irresponsible and would cost this team money we don't have. Doing it now makes it the most cap friendly contract for us while securing him for the long term.
