Hardys probably walking....what do we do to fill the void

OK its simple. I love Hardy and what he brings to the team. But you have to look at somethings in his game. Hes not the best passrusher on the team. Most of his sacks have come against average OT's. When facing a top tier OT, he has disappeared. If other GM's were smart about this they would not through $60-80mil at him. He is still developing.

If we lose Hardy we just lose a little defense to gain a little offense. Put that money into getting Cam weapons and protection. A lot of time the defense was put in a position they didn't deserve to be in because of our shotty offense. They we just so damn good they came out on top.

Alexander and Addison are okay but I would be happy if brought in a pass rusher. Michael Bennett, Jared Allen, I hate to say it but bringing back Peppers wouldn't be a bad  idea as a stop gap until we can commit to drafting pass rushers early in future years.

I want Hardy back though. The man is too good.

I understand that Richarson still has some say in who stays or leaves.  I wonder what Gettleman will do if JR said he wanted Hardy signed to a long term deal?  I wonder if Gettleman going from saying that Hardy might be a cap casualty to saying he is a player we need to resign is being influenced by upstairs.

I don't think we needed Peppers when he left, so for the price with other needs, Hardy is the last thing we should worry about.  1 player is not going to take this team to the promise land.

Peppers has nothing to do with this situation but to be sure the D took a step back when he left and has just recently recovered. That may not be the case now but generally we need to maintain the D or improve it and losing Hardy would not do that. One player  may not take us to the promised land but losing one player could detour the trip.We took a step back by not replacing Gamble with a comparable CB. We will take a step back by losing Hardy.

I agree with you on Gamble, and that move hurt so bad because we didn't have a committee to replace him, but our dline is going to still be strong without Hardy.  We have 2 projected 1st d.t.'s and cj, plus a good stable of de's.  Losing Hardy is nothing to worry about, keeping hardy for a price that stunts the growth of the team will hurt for years more years than it would if we lose him.

'I believe in teams and one player  that can hamstring the budget is a big no no.  You probably want Hurney to come back to ink the Hardy deal since that was his pick and he would be the only capable of doing that without blinking an eye.

So we let Newton walk or trade him because he is going to hamstring the budget?

Don't be an idiot, you know that is not what you got from that post.  Hardy is apart of a unit that is already strong, so why break the bank and price the team out of Cam, and Luke?  Just doesn't make sense.

I hope not.  I'd really prefer Richardson leave the football decisions to the people he's hired to make football decisions.  He had a puppet in Hurney and look how that all worked out.  He used to always say that Hurney would be his GM as long as he owned the team.  Obviously his thoughts changed on that.  Hopefully he learned that he needs a real GM and not just a puppet to do his bidding.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
