Cam saying he WON'T hold out for new deal

Yeah, and we have to decide whether or not to exercise it THIS off-season. If they can't reach an agreement on a long-term extension in the next couple months, they'll likely activate the option to be safe. Though, under no circumstance should we actually let him play that fifth year, otherwise he'd be an unrestricted FA.

You can't apply the franchise tag after you've exercised the 5th year option?

He'd get slapped with the exclusive franchise tag after year 5 well before he ever became a UFA. He will get paid either after year 4 or 5, depending on when the cap space allows. I also think Cam understands this & knows he'll get paid when it can be done without crippling the team.

He will get paid when Gettleman is good & ready to pay him. "We're doing this on the Panthers time & nobody else's."

Hardy & Munnerlyn can cry out all they want. Not gonna change anything, there is a new sheriff in town.

Cam might end up playing under the 5th year club option while we get our finances in order, so we don't have to let valuable assets like Hardy walk.

Lol you're crazy. Cam is smart. He wants weapons, if the team doesn't start building around him he won't be here. Of course he isn't seeking a new deal here. He's going to let things play out and see what the team is looking like.

Looks like Cam is in no hurry to sign a long term deal and wants to experience free agency. Or at least he wants to see how this upcoming draftees turn out before he sign long term. If our 28th pick don't pan out next year and we didn't not sign any respectable free agents we'd be even worse of. Imagine Cam starting the 2015 season with a 36 y old Smith is his primary target. Guarantee Cam think about that.

If they can get him on the cheap for one more year it would go a long way in the team's ability to build around him.

Cam has said literally nothing to imply that he wants to be a free agent and try free agency.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
