Prove it Deal for Kenny Britt?

I value character, and I think Mr. Richardson does too. This is an NFL team, a great opportunity, not a rehab center. The talent has to exceed the distraction. Britt is no Cris Carter, by the way. I don't want to root for people who would make my family nervous walking down my street.

Drafting Cam Newton suggests otherwise.

Anyways, if Nicks went to college in Missouri everyone here would be laughing at the kind of money he wants. Well, supposedly wants, considering he's been missing for over a year.

.

I think you can probably change that to "wanted".  No team is giving him anywhere close to what he was wanting.  I don't think I've seen a single poster state that they want to give Nicks a long-term, big money deal.

What is that supposed to mean?

Is everyone a career criminal to you? Have you never been in any trouble before in your life?

The vast majority of people, including myself, have never been arrested.

If you're gonna argue that there weren't valid character concerns surrounding Newton, who left Florida after being arrested and had numerous questions surrounding him at Auburn, when he entered the draft then you are a complete dumb ass.

I never said he was a "career criminal" or was a bad person. But he did have red flags surrounding him, and with good reason.

I honestly believe we have the locker room and organizational structure to allow "at risk" or "off season knuckle" a chance to cleanup their act and reach their potential. We have a lot of good character on out team and great coaches. I'm never too worried about what people have done I their past. They just need structure and support that was lacking early and we can provide that. If he's cheap he certainly has the talent to succeed. I'm not one to completely write off people for off season reasons.

Just because someone hasn't been arrested doesn't mean they haven't broken the law, or done something foolish at some point in their lives. You're quite the hypocrite regardless.

There were all sorts of ignorant things said about him before the draft. The legitimate concern was about him translating to the NFL after only one year in the SEC. It was pretty much bigots, and fans of other college teams who got their asses kicked by Auburn that kept bringing up what happened at Florida every chance they got.

I took issue with you mentioning us taking a chance on Cam Newton in the draft as if that's even remotely comparable to this situation in discussing potentially signing a guy who's been arrested numerous times already while playing in the NFL. That's blatantly asinine, and you know it.

Drafting Cam Newton suggests otherwise.

They lookied into the incident pretty carefully, which suggests that character was/is important.  They talked to college coaches and teammates af Florida, the Community College, and Auburn.  I was skeptical too, because "where there is smoke, there is fire" many times, but looking back, this was more about the press needing something to write about that a kid with character concerns. I imagine character was not an issue by the time they drafted him.  He has proven them to be right.

Britt has been with Tennessee about 4 years and has had 9 run-ins with the law.  That is one every 6 months.  That, to me, is a guy with a problem.  I would not give a guy a 1-year contract when the odds are that will involve 2 police investigations.
