If nothing else, we can use this contract to help gauge how more or less fuged that we're going to be. In other words, we're going to be fuged either way.

Until players start being paid what they are worth on this team, we will be fugged! Gman is trying to change that but this gawd dam fanbase is to pussified to understand that something's are meant to be left in the past

How is CJ overpaid? I can't comprehend how a player, who has done nothing but perform consistently great for us isn't worth his contract? You people do know, that we HAD to pay him that amount or else he would have been lining up across from byron bell twice a year for the last three years right?

I for one am glad, that we paid him what he imo deserved.

If I am the GM of a team that runs the 4-3, I am going to have one starter on a rookie deal at all times.  For Example, if I sign Hardy to a 5-year deal, I would try to trade CJ and draft a rookie DE.  I am not saying that we are in position to do that, but I am saying I would try to get a rotation going where I have one big contract at a time.

It's not the fan base I'm worried about. It's other GMs who don't seem to subscribe to G-man's philosophy.  The past and the present seem to be merging---meaning: the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The Devil is apparently not in the details anymore. The way that we're going to have to succeed is by G-man's ability to eek out talent consistently, and be lucky enough to take advantage of that window of opportunity where ancillary pieces are getting "underpaid" in support of the "overpaid" core who has to be consistently rock-solid.

G-man wants to build and support a state-sponsored military among a growing world of mercenaries.

For real? He is waaay overpaid! Look at what Tuck has been making! Sorry, CJ is not better than Tuck! Just as good, maybe but not almost 10mil a year better

He will do it, but he won't be a fan favorite while doing it! Look at it this way....we have 30mil this year tied up in our top 2 DEs! Go look at what we could have with that 30mil. We would be a better team!

Justin Tuck got his extension after a season where he started 2(!!!) games for the giants. CJ got his contract after an 11.5 sack season where he was by far the best player on our defensive line.

And by using your logic every player in the league is waaaay overpaid, but the grossly underpaid.

And btw CJ earns 12 a year, tuck earned 6. How is that almost 10?

I disagree about CJ.

he'll be 28 before the season starts.

That gives him 2 to 4 years before decline, IMO.

So far, CJ has been lucky with no major injuries.

I wouldn't want to bet that it remains that way.

Now he can always prove me wrong. I wouldn't mind.

    • I've been screaming for DE for months. Forbidden topic indeed.
    • Great post! Now that I think on it, I think D line might be our biggest need. We are one player away from having a potential disastrous defensive line. Brown and Wharton struggled last year and Wharton has really only been a rotational player that specializes in one thing. Can we count on him being a full time starter? Jackson is unproven. Do you want a starting defensive line of Wharton, Brown and Jackson? I don’t want to risk it.   I honestly don’t think linebacker is that big of a need. If Rozeboom ends up coming back then why get a LB?   games are won in the trenches and I would honestly prefer us drafting an offensive or defensive linemen over any other position in the first. The prospect you mentioned seems like a good prospect who has had some good production as well. Only problem is defensive line is a position that can take time for a player to develop. Will whoever we draft be ready this season ?
    • Have they though? I'll give you KC with Kelce, but c'mon, they weren't winning those SB's because they had a great TE, it was a combination of Mahomes and some great defenses.  Will also give you the 49ers and Ravens with Kittle and Andrews, but even then, both have missed time with injuries the last few years. After those 3 teams, the best teams of the last 2-3 years have not had elite TEs The Eagles had Goedert, he's good, not great. The Bills have also had good but not great TE's The Rams have had average TEs and still consistently run 2 and 3 TE sets with them and still win. The Bucs have been winning the South without a great TE The Lions' Laporta is more a name than a highly productive TE. The Texans have had a serviceable TE in Shultz, but nothing too amazing. Some of the best TE's in the league the last few years have been on some of the worst teams.  McBride, Bowers, Warren, Njoku, even Pitts this past year. A true elite TE is absolutely a weapon in today's game, but I think the best teams use that money elsewhere and find serviceable TE play, usually through a committee where each TE brings something else to the table.
