Is the Gettie trying to do too much too quickly?

Gross retired... he was not cut by DG so don't blame DG for LT issues. Legendary WR don't win you games, playmakers do. Unfortunately, Steve Smith is a shell of a playmaker. Watching Smitty getting chased down by linebackers last year was painful to watch. Smitty is no more than #2 or #3 WR but he's getting paid like top 10 WR in the league. If you insert smitty as your #1 WR, you guranteed a limp dick offense. Team's will single cover slow Smitty, allowing them to bring safeties closer to line of screamage and take away our run game (something that happened A LOT last year).

You don't think that restructure had anything to do with him retiring?

He was talking about retiring for few years now.  It's not like he just decided to quit.  Gross will be 34 years old in few months...  That's a normal retirement age for offensive lineman.  Gross was bitching about training camp for the past 2 years that it takes toll on him.

Shitty teams do it too. Only time will tell if it works out.

It's a fact of life in the NFL if not all professional sports. I personally would like to have seen Smith stick around another year or two but I see the reality of the situation.

Two years ago Smith was alleged by people like Gantt to be wanting out. It's a two way street.

I guess everyone thought he was lying when he said he was evaluating the team last year. DG is a scout and he is cutting the Fat. Love Smith but we are building a team for the future and Smith has maybe two more seasons left. People are going to get even more annoyed when we don't make the playoffs this year but it will be for the greater good.

Wasn't Gross just a probowler? Recently? Like "he might still have pineapple in his fridge" recently?

Was referring more towards Smitty. Gross retired because he was done! Not because Gman forced him out. Gross even said that the team is in good hands! Doubt he made that up, so yes, he used to be!

Our offense was ineffective last season... Failing to score more than 13 points in many games. 12-4 record is all defense. DG is rebuilding our entire offense. We cannot do any worse offensively this year than last year.

No, it was conservative, not ineffective. It was very effective ranking 5th in drive success rate.

We had 4 games regular season games where we failed to score 13 points, 3 of those were loses. Those 3 loses came to Sea, Cards and NO, all had very highly ranked D's. Then we had the rematch with SF in the playoffs and we're all aware how good their D is too. Hardly shocking or unexpected.

They will be able to effectively blitz Cam and completely destroy our offense. You add 2 fast WR that can stratch the field on each side, defenses will have to move safeties deep for extra support. Less blitzer and better run game.

Last year I witness many times when teams would blitz their corner and their LB would perfectly cover Smitty. LB on WR should be a mismatch and should lead to at least 1st down but it wasn't many times.

Gettleman had a lot to do with gross retiring

He retired because he didn't want to be forced out like he knew Gettleman would do after he used him up
