last offseason we didn't sign a free agent until day three. it was drayton florence.

we knew we wouldnt have money heading into the offseason. expecting anything different from last year? well, that's your own damn fault so shut the fug up already.

Last year was last year.  G-man was the new kid on the block, selling dreams to "outcasts" of the league who were willing to give him the old college try.  It was magic. Gettlemagic.  Well, like some of us have tried to tell others: The league is looking and watching now.  Don't be naive.  Guys with a little bit of game this year may not fall for the smooth talking anecdotes, proverbs and promises from good ol' grandpa-like Getty this year. They've seen that act. Add in the Smitty debacle and you never know what guys are thinking and how it's affecting the perception of the franchise.

Now I am not saying that this is the case (at least for everyone looking in), but what we may have here is the chickens coming home to roost.

We have already asked Cam to carry to much on offense already. Sooner or later not getting him adequate weapons is going to get him hurt.

Cam's pressure has only just begun.

Time to see if the guy who lead Auburn to the NT can do it at the pro level.

Sink or swim.

we're screwing over half the team? who? the smitty situation was handled poorly, yeah, but he wasn't a necessity last season, was he? 750 yards. tons of drops. due to make $10m for that kind of production. are you kidding me?

who else did we disrespect? jordan gross because we wanted him to take a paycut to come back? why in god's name would we ever ask a team captain and a reliable (not GREAT) player to take one for the team when he's already gotten his massive contracts to feed his family for the next two generations? gee.... if only we knew... oh right, because that's the sensible thing to do if you want to continue playing. if he doesn't want to play anymore, fug it. let him retire healthy.

look, steve smith, mike mitchell, ted ginn, dom hixon, captain munnerlyn, brandon lafell... were these even top 5 most important players on the team? how about 10? between cam, tolbert, olsen, kalil, keek, TD, cj, kraken, gano, etc.

quit your bitching, seriously. all the dudes we're losing were on one year deals for a reason. they arent that good

relax

Mike Mitchell, Steve Smith, Ted Ginn, Captain Munnerlyn, Brandon LaFell, and Jordan Gross together? With them, we're a 12-4 SB contender. Right now? 6-10 would be my prediction. You don't have to be the best player on the team to play a key role that can be the difference between a win and a loss any given Sunday.

They aren't that good... Lol. Okay man, keep telling yourself that. They were instrumental pieces to a 12-4 team, not bench riders of a 4-12 team.

Come on, man. You are usually a good poster on here. I know having your favorite player leave unceremoniously sucks, but at the end of the day, what's done is done and there's no point in being bitter about it.

"Steve Smith's situation is being evaluated." That's all he said. It wasn't that disrespectful. All this other nonsense coming out is from Steve's agent or media speculation.

I'm in Guatemala without much time to really look into anything, so I'm speaking based on Huddle threads. But from what I can see? Steve got totally screwed over, as did the fans. You don't cut the franchise's all time best and most popular player in order to save 3 million (?) which can be used to sign, what, some journeyman plug-and-play lineman or whatever Gettleman's "bigger picture" includes? Makes no logical sense and loses the trust and backing of lifelong fans.

Yes less push Cam into the Atlantic ocean in a bath tub and see if he can make it to Europe.

It's ironic the ones complaining about loyalty to 89 are the ones yelling to anyone who questions Gettleman. You'd think he was Jesus or something based on how some people are holding him here.

There is nothing wrong in being a little worried about the situation we're in.

The bottom line is we have more holes to fill this year than last year, no money, a badass qb and an elite front seven. Thats it.

We are going to have to hope we draft well plug in a few guys from mid-tier FA that round out our team nicely and hope everyone's game who is still on the roster from last year elevates.

All hope is not lost

I still have hope but I really need Gettelman to plug 1 hole before the draft.

This team has Olsen, Lotulelei, Hardy, Johnson, Kalil, Cam, Kuechly, Short and Davis as a core.

How many teams can boast a core such as that?  Unless the answer is over 16, I don't want to hear it.

Yeah, we suck so bad we should just forfeit 2014.

how much will the way we handled the 1 year guys affect others who may want to sign? Won't that just draw those who want to get back in good graces instead of players currently considered viable?
