Gman Agreed COLTS Were Right Fit For Nicks

Although Nicks drew plenty of interest from his hometown Panthers, he told The Charlotte Observer that Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman agreed that Indianapolis offered a better situation for the wide receiver. - Chris Wissenling

"Yeah they made an offer when I talked to Dave Gettleman," Nicks said. "But you know it just didn't pan out the right way. I feel like this is the best fit for me.

"After talking to Gettleman, I think he agreed that this was the best situation for me, too, even though they made the offer. Like I said, I feel like I made the best decision and I'm ready to make the best of it."

i just understand how this common sense analysis is so hard for eveyone to grasp! I knew immediately after Smith was cut he wasn't coming here. Been trying to explain this but ppl continue but they want to think it was about $$ even though we offered him more.

It's a far better offense in Indy and they're in a weak division. Here he'd be the 1 with very little offensive support and would draw the D's total attention.

I don't like it, but Indy is a better situation.

too much pressure! You could look at it from that standpoint but I think he was thinking more "I have to live up to the standards the man I grew up admiring & what if I fail?". "Nah ill just go play behind 3 others in Indy. Much easier & their team isn't currently falling apart"

Nicks probably did want to play for Carolina.  We made him an offer, Indy made a better offer.  Nicks calls Gettleman back, tells him what Indy is offering hoping we will sweeten the pot for him, Gettleman tells him "yea thats probably a better fit".

He could not go wrong on either team, based on the QB.  Luck and Cam are going to be the cream of the crop very soon.

This makes me think that Gettleman sees Nicks as a #2, whereas the Colts are giving him the opportunity to compete for #1 with Hilton/Wayne.
